At the start of the season many people predicted that Newcastle United would struggle this season. They had sold off some of their best players in recent months and there was a serious lack of significant re-investment in the club. Yet, here we are nearly two full months into the season and the Magpies are fourth in the league and, amazingly, still unbeaten. Alan Pardew takes his side to Molineux on Saturday for a match with a Wolves side who are speedily slipping down the table. Mick McCarthy’s side are down into 12th after losing their last three games in the league.
In the match odds for Saturday, Unibet make Wolves the slight favourites at 23/17 while a Newcastle win is 19/10 and a draw offered at 9/4.
Newcastle are coming off the back of 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers last weekend. Demba Ba joined Leon Best as the club’s top goalscorer so far this season with three goals after he bagged his first hat- trick in English football. The striker received a standing ovation from the St. James Park faithful and his performance will have delighted manager Pardew after he had seen his side score just four goals in five games in their previous league matches.
With 12 points from six matches, Newcastle are off to their best start to a Premier League season in nine years. The win over also Blackburn also ensured that the side stayed unbeaten in their first six games for the first time since the 1994/1995 season. Alan Padrew will be quietly confident that his side can keep their good run going when they travel to Molineux at the weekend.
After a brilliant start to the season where they won two and drew one of their opening three games, Wolves have lost their last three. Defeats to Tottenham and Liverpool were to be expected, but a 3-0 hammering at home from QPR must have been bitterly disappointing for Mick McCarthy. His side’s performances have been very mixed so far and there was no better example of this than last weekend at Anfield. In the first half Liverpool dominated and took a comfortable two goal lead, but Wolves fought back hard after the break and nearly took something from the game when Stephen Fletcher gave them hope with a goal a few minutes after halftime.
In the betting for Saturday, Newcastle are a tempting price at 19/10. They are in much better form than Wolves at the moment and have already taken five points from three games on the road this season. Meanwhile, Wolves have lost their last two at Molineux after putting in poor displays.
Also another bet for the weekend would be to back over 2.5 at 11/10 with Unibet. Wolves have conceded seven goals in their last four matches while Newcastle have scored seven goals in their last four matches.
