Liverpool v Newcastle Odds: Demba Ba can score first to pile pressure on Dalglish

Friday night's live game in the Premier League this week is the Liverpool v Newcastle clash at Anfield. This fixture has been a real goalfest in past seasons and the two teams have dished up some amazing matches in the Premier League. This season could be different however with both sides demonstrating that they are strong in defence, Liverpool boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League.

The bookmakers make Liverpool favourites to take all three points, with Bet365 going best price 4/7 for a Reds win. Newcastle sit just one place behind their hosts in seventh place in the league and you can back Alan Pardew's side at odds of 11/2, whilst the draw is an attractive looking 11/4.

Liverpool dropped two points at home to Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day who were the latest team to take points from Kenny Dalglish's side at home this season. In fact, Liverpool have won just three games at Anfield in the league this season despite being unbeaten at home, with goals very much at a premium, scoring just eleven. Top scorer Luis Suarez misses Friday's match through suspension so Andy Carroll looks set to deputise against his former club. The player who cost Liverpool £35m twelve months ago has experienced a tough time through injuries and lack of confidence in front of goal. The English centre forward isn't even favourite to score first with Bet365 at Anfield on Friday, with Craig Bellamy best fancied at 9/2 to open the scoring.

Newcastle are enjoying an excellent Premier League season under Alan Pardew and got back to winning ways last week against Bolton at the Reebok after a tough run of results. The Geordies lasted as long as until the 19th of November before they tasted defeat for the first time this season when losing 3-1 away at Manchester City, no disgrace. Alan Pardew's side then went on a run of five matches without a win before the 2-0 victory at Bolton on Boxing Day and the Magpies won't hold any fear going to Anfield.

Newcastle have won four of their nine away matches this season and have taken points off Sunderland, Stoke and Aston Villa on their travels to name just three. Free transfer Demba Ba has been a revelation since signing from West Ham in the summer and the Senegalese striker is 15/2 to score the first goal at Anfield on Friday with Bet 365, which could be worth a sneaky each-way bet.

Liverpool have drawn with Blackburn, Swansea, Norwich, Sunderland and both Manchester clubs at Anfield this season and with Newcastle's away form very solid a draw could be the bet again here at 11/4, especially with Suarez missing. Steven Gerrard is likely to feature following injury but even the England man couldn't inspire a win over Blackburn on Boxing Day. 1-1 is available to back at 6/1 with Bet365 which looks a decent bet in the correct score market.
