Next Permanent England Manager Odds: Harry Redknapp favourite in betting

The England Squad returned from their poor World Cup performance today and arrived to a heroes welcome, well they would have done had the plane touched down in Glasgow, however as it was Heathrow their were no crowds of fans to welcome Fabio Capello’s team back.

Since England were knocked out of the competition there has been quite a lot of speculation in the press as to the future of head coach Fabio Capello. Capello has stated that he wishes to continue in his role but he has been told by the F.A. that he will have to wait two weeks to see if he will be able to continue in his position.

This two week period will surely see the Football Association’s lawyers and accountants furiously crunching numbers to see if they can afford to end the Italians contract prematurely. As there was talk before the World Cup that he would be tempted back to a managers job in Italy Capello was recently given an extension to his contract which would take him to the European Championships in 2012, which has been reported to be worth around £6m a year.

Many pundits are predicting that the FA will dispose of Capello and install a new manager in time for England’s next tie, and all the odds supplied by internet bookmakers Skybet look like the Football Association will this time plummet for an English Manager.

Harry Redknapp has been installed the favourite with Sky Bet, with the Tottenham boss a possible replacement for Fabio Capello after guiding Spurs to a top four finish in the Premier League last season. Roy Hodgson has also been linked but the Fulham Boss has also been linked with the current vacancy at Liverpool, with an announcement said to be made within the next 48 hours. Other English manager's being linked are Sam Allardyce and David Beckham, the latter of whom has no managerial experience but could jump straight into the national team hotseat much like Marco Van Basten did for Holland and Jurgen Klinsmann did for Germany in 2006. If Harry Redknapp were to be appointed the new England manager, the betting would immediately start for 'Next Tottenham Boss' in this managerial merry-go-round!
