Blackburn face a tricky trip to the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday night when they take on Cardiff in their Carling Cup quarter-final match. The Premier League side have been struggling of late and defeat would crank up the pressure on Steve Kean, with William Hill pricing the Welsh side marginal favourites at odds of 7/5, with Rovers available at 19/10.
Cardiff are flying high in the Championship at the moment and they look a decent punt to cause a cup 'upset', even though they start as the bookies' favourites. Hills go 4/5 that Cardiff qualify for the semi-finals, while Blackburn are 10/11 to make the last four and lift the gloom surrounding the North West club.
It is fair to say that Steve Kean is not Rovers' fans' favourite person at the moment and his popularity took another hit on Saturday when his side slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Stoke - a result which leaves them rock bottom of the Premier League. The one bright spot from that match was a sprightly performance from Yakubu, who has scored four in his last five, and he is 6/1 to be first scorer on Tuesday.
Blackburn, who are without Chris Samba, Martin Olsson and Ryan Nelsen, have scored in all of their away matches this season and both teams to score is 13/20 on, but the problem for Rovers is the fact that they are shipping goals on a regular basis. They have failed to keep a clean sheet on the road this season and are winless away from home.
Kean's men have conceded nine goals in their last three away fixtures and have kept just one clean sheet in the previous eight Carling Cup away matches, conceding nine in the last two.
They come up against a Cardiff side who average two goals a game in the Championship at home and the Welsh side can be backed at 13/5 to score two goals on Tuesday with WilliamHill.com, while over 2.5 goals is available at 10/11.
They have been hugely impressive at home all season, losing only once, and they will be confident of overcoming their Premier League opponents. Cardiff, who are third in the Championship, are unbeaten in eight matches and have won eight and lost none of their last nine Carling Cup matches at home - an unbeaten run that stretches back to 2006.
Former Aston Villa midfielder Pete Whittingham has been amongst the goals of late, scoring four in his last five, and he looks good value to be first scorer at 15/2 with Hills.
However, Cardiff have won only one of their four Carling Cup matches in 90 minutes this season and Hills go 9/1 for Cardiff to win in extra time and 10/1 for the win on penalties.
