One of two all-Premier League ties in the Carling Cup quarter-finals sees Arsenal host Manchester City in the live Tuesday night match. Both sides were held to draws at the weekend and could opt to field weakened sides, with City look a decent punt to win the match at odds of 11/8 with Betfred, while Arsenal are marginally less fancied at 15/8.
Arsenal's fine recent form was brought to a halt on Saturday as they could only draw 1-1 with London neighbours Fulham in the Premier League. Their bid for a league title would appear to be all but over after a disastrous start to the season but they will be keen to progress in the Carling Cup.
Arsene Wenger's men haven't won a trophy since 2005 after they were stunned by Birmingham in last season's Carling Cup final. They are in the quarter-finals of the competition for a record ninth successive season but Wenger may opt to field his youngsters again.
Wenger is concerned about the amount of football that Robin Van Persie, who is 9/2 to score first on Tuesday, has played this term and Chi Young Park could get a rare start after he scored in the last round against Bolton, with Betfred pricing him 13/2 to get the first goal.
Goals could well be in store as nine of Arsenal's last ten domestic matches have involved over 2.5 goals and over 2.5 is 4/6 on this week. Arsenal must continue to do without Carl Jenkinson, Keiren Gibbs, Bacary Sagna and Jack Wilshere as they take on the Premier League leaders.
City have come unstuck a bit of late as they were beaten by Napoli in the Champions League and could only draw 1-1 with Liverpool on Sunday, but we fancy them to return to winning ways at the Emirates. The draw with Liverpool was their first match under 2.5 goals in ten and they carry a huge goal threat.
Roberto Mancini's side have only failed to score once in their last 20 in the Carling Cup and both teams to score is 4/7 on. Samir Nasri is likely to face a frosty reception from his old club and he is 10/1 to be first goalscorer, while Edin Dzeko could be worth backing to score first at industry best priced odds of 6/1 with Betfred.com as he is likely to get a start after Mario Balotelli's sending off at the weekend.
A red card in this week's match looks a decent punt as the two Arsenal v Man City fixtures last season involved three red cards, with Betfred offering 3/1 that a player is sent off at the Emirates.
City have a poor record at Arsenal, failing to win in their last 28, but they are 4/6 odds on to qualify for the semi-finals. Even if Mancini rotates his squad, we fancy his reserves to be too strong for Wenger's and the correct score of 2-1 to City can be backed at 8/1.
