Man City can move a step closer to securing Champions League football for next season when they play relegation threatened West Ham at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday afternoon. City are 2/5 on in the match betting with William Hill and could push West Ham closer to relegation from the Premier League, and things don't look good for the Hammers who are 13/2 outsiders.
Fourth placed City are four points clear of Tottenham in fifth and can move towards Champions League football which has been the ultimate goal for Roberto Mancini all season. His side have been grinding out results of late and they were indebted to Edin Dzeko ending his six match goal drought in a 1-0 win against Blackburn last time out.
Dzeko has failed to ignite since his January move but he will continue to lead the line with top scorer Carlos Tevez out injured and he is 7/2 in the first goalscorer betting. City are without Micah Richards and Jerome Boateng as well this weekend, although their players are worth looking at for a first scorer as they have scored first in 20 of 33 matches this term.
Of more value to punters might be David Silva, who alongside Tevez has been City's inspiration this season and who has scored three goals in his last six at home. He is available at 5/1 to score first with WilliamHill.com and could be well worth a look as he tries to add to his season tally of nine.
City certainly look good for the three points on Sunday as they are unbeaten in seven at home and City can be backed at 15/8 to win both halves, which is well worth a look as they are unbeaten in fourteen matches when ahead at half time while West Ham have failed to win when behind after 45 minutes.
Mancini has without doubt based City's season on defensive solidity and it has been successful as they have kept 15 clean sheets, the joint most with Chelsea, and have kept five clean sheets in their last seven at home. With that in mind it could be worth a look at under 2.5 goals at 6/5 with William Hill or of more interest could be the City win to nil which can be backed at 13/10.
Basement club West Ham certainly look set for a struggle as they battle to avoid relegation, particularly as they have picked up one point from their last five matches and have lost the last four in a row. They have failed to score in their last three away from Upton Park and Robbie Keane looks the most likely in the first scorer market at 9/1, although the defence is of bigger concern.
Avram Grant's team have conceded two goals per game on average in away matches and have managed only one clean sheet all season. With Mark Noble, Gary O'Neill and Matthew Upson out injured and the influential Scott Parker doubtful, it is difficult to see things getting any better for them this weekend.
Furthermore, West Ham have lost four of their last five matches at Man City and City have scored three goals in their last five meetings. The City 3-0 win can be backed at 8/1, but perhaps more realistically with Tevez out and West Ham's woes in front of goal the 2-0 correct score could be worth a punt at 13/2 in the betting with Hills.
