Tuesday night's QPR v Man City clash is an important one for both teams but very different reasons as Rangers bid to move off the foot of the Premier League, while City bid to enhance their title prospects. QPR are currently bottom of the table and five points adrift of safety as Harry Redknapp bids to work his magic at Loftus Road, although City have bigger fish to fry as they sit just five points behind Man United at the top of the table.
It is no surprise to see that City start this week's match as 4/9 odds on favourites with Betfred, while QPR can be backed at 13/2 and the draw is available at 7/2. Both sides are struggling with injury problems going into the game and it should make for an interesting spectacle as Rangers look to rediscover the form that saw them beat Chelsea 1-0 not so long ago.
That win over Chelsea has proven to be something of a false dawn at Loftus Road as a much-changed side slumped to a 4-2 home defeat against League One's MK Dons in the FA Cup on Saturday. That was Rangers' first defeat in six but it was a hammer blow to a team who are looking to re-build confidence.
They are likely to be without Junior Hoilett and Bobby Zamora this week and Redknapp is sweating on the fitness of star striker Loic Remy, who is 15/2 to be first goalscorer if he does play on Tuesday. Despite Redknapp's fabled powers of transforming 'down on their luck' teams, the former Spurs boss has overseen just two wins in 10 league games at QPR and they are under increasing pressure.
A fixture against a rejuvenated City is hardly an ideal fixture but QPR can take heart from City's injury problems in defence. The visitors are without Vincent Kompany, Maicon and Micah Richards this week, while Yaya and Kolo Toure are at the African Cup of Nations. Their absence leaves Roberto Mancini's back-line looking decidedly shaky and Fred go 5/6 that both teams score on Tuesday.
City go into the game having kept five consecutive clean sheets and they are yet to concede a goal during 2013. They will look to maintain their perfect January as they head to Loftus Road on a four-match winning run in the league and on a six-match run in all competitions. They can close the gap with Man United at the top of the Premier League table to two points with a win on Tuesday, albeit United are in action at home to Southampton on Wednesday night.
Mancini's side might not have things all their own way at Loftus Road though and the match to end in a tie in the handicap market, with QPR +1 goal, could be worth a look at 12/5. City have won all three meetings with QPR since Rangers returned to the top flight and it is a fixture that Edin Dzeko has tended to thrive in.
Dzeko has scored three in three appearances against QPR and he is in fine form heading into this match after scoring four in his last six outings. Dzeko is 4/1 to be first goalscorer this week and Betfred are offering to double the odds if your successful first scorer bet goes on to score another goal and they will treble your odds if he goes on to score a hat-trick.
