Liverpool v Wolves Odds: Back Gerrard to make a goalscoring Premier League return

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson will be delighted to welcome bottom club Wolves to Anfield for the live Wednesday night match as rumours persist about his future at the club. Wolves have yet to win away from home this season, have the worst away record in the league and unsurprisingly are long odds with William Hill bookmakers to win.

Liverpool are odds on favourites at 1/3 with Hills and it is a much needed fixture for the Merseyside club. The recent sacking of Rafa Benitez from Inter Milan has led to reports that Benitez could be set for a shock return to the club he left in the summer as his old charges continue to struggle in the Premier League. Despite securing qualification to the Europa League knockout stages the pressure remains on Hodgson as they sit in tenth place in the league following a dismal 3-1 defeat to Newcastle a few weeks ago that means they have lost four of their last ten fixtures.

They are a strong proposition at Anfield though, having won the last four there on the bounce, scoring ten and conceding only one in the process, and are unbeaten at home since their sensational 2-1 defeat to Blackpool. Furthermore they have scored in every home game they have played this term and welcome back inspirational skipper Steven Gerrard after a six week layoff. Gerrard is 4/1 to score first with WilliamHill.com and that could be worth a look as he looks to make a mark on his return, or the odds of Gerrard to score first and Liverpool to win is 5/1 and very tempting.

His return should ensure Liverpool get back to winning ways and ease the pressure for a short while on Hodgson, although they will have to do without the services of Jamie Carragher for some time yet. The match is an ideal opportunity for Fernando Torres to rediscover his goalscoring touch and he is 2/1 odds on favourite to score first.

It is hard to look anywhere other than a Liverpool win thanks to the wretched record of Wolves away from Molineux and the fact they currently prop up the rest of the Premier League at the moment following their humiliating 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Wigan at the weekend. They are as long as 10/1 to win on Wednesday with William Hill which comes as no surprise when you consider they have lost seven of their last ten matches, have yet to win away from home and have managed just one point on their travels - a 1-1 draw with Everton back in August.

Mick McCarthy is coming under increasing pressure himself and will have been angered by the way his side subsided to Wigan, and he will have to do without the services of Karl Henry, Jody Craddock, Adlene Guidioura and David Jones. While Michael Mancienne and Steven Mouyokolo remain doubtful. Their leaky defence has yet to keep a clean sheet in an away match this season and a Wolves clean sheet on Wednesday is as long as odds of 6/1 with William Hill.

The Liverpool win should be a formality with Steven Gerrard back to orchestrate the midfield and the 3-0 win looks good at odds of 15/2, which is the exact score they have recorded twice at Anfield already this term. While the Liverpool win with a handicap of -2 goals is 9/4 and could be worth a look.
