Manchester United will look to get their Premier League season back on track on Saturday lunchtime as they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton. The Reds start as favourite at 5/6 in the betting with William Hill, but Everton (16/5) could be worth backing to nick a draw at 13/5.
United were left reeling by their 6-1 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester City last weekend and a 3-0 Carling Cup win over Aldershot has done little to ease the pain. They come up against an Everton side with a fine record at home and who were unfortunate not to beat Chelsea in their Cup match on Wednesday.
Thirteenth placed Everton have only lost two of their last fifteen at Goodison Park and are unbeaten in the last three fixtures against United at the stadium. The match between the two here last season is best remembered for Everton’s stunning comeback from 3-1 down in injury time.
They scored two goals after the 90th minute and the same 3-3 correct score is a massive 66/1 in the betting this weekend. Interestingly, Everton have scored three of their last four goals against United after the 90th minute, while four of their ten league goals this term have come in the 90th minute or after. United meanwhile must do without Federico Macheda, Ryan Giggs, Darron Gibson and Bebe, as well as the suspended Johnny Evans, this weekend, although Rafael could be fit.
Despite talk of a crisis at Manchester United, they have lost just one of their last eight away matches in the league and have scored in every match this season. Sir Alex Ferguson will be hoping that Wayne Rooney can find his scoring boots and he is 4/1 favourite to score first against his former club.
Of more interest could be Darren Fletcher at 20/1 with Hills though as the Scottish midfielder has scored three goals in his last five against Everton and notched the consolation goal in the defeat to City last weekend.
United come up against an Everton defence that is yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season, while United themselves have kept just three clean sheets in their last thirteen in the league – with both teams to score 8/11 on and over 2.5 goals priced 10/11.
Everton have won only three of the last 37 matches against United in the league but after draws at Stoke and Liverpool, as well as the humbling at City, we fancy United could be vulnerable and the draw looks good value.
