Following their defeat at Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend Chelsea take on Marseille in this Group F, Champions League match on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge, knowing that they must bounce back strongly if they are to claim the three points from this match. The Bookmakers are certainly on Chelsea’s side, with Paddy Power quoting them as 3/10 odds on favourites, whilst at the same time giving the French side only a 10/1 chance of winning. The draw can be backed at 4/1.

Chelsea of course opened up their Group F campaign with a win over MSK Zilina by 4-1, looking every bit a potential Champions League winning side, while Marseille, these days being coached by former Chelsea star, Didier Deschamps, lost at home to Spartak Moscow, which means that defeat at Stamford Bridge will almost certainly mean an early exit from the competition. Their league form has not been too bright either, losing twice in League One in France in seven matches, leaving them off the pace on fifth place. They have however improved a little lately winning their last two league games which should provide them with some confidence ahead of this game.
Champions League Odds Comparisons
Chelsea boss, Carlos Ancelotti, will not be over concerned with the defeat at Manchester City at the weekend, he will in fact be more than pleased with the start his side have made to the new season, winning every other competitive game, which includes three wins at home and scoring 12 goals in them in the process. The goals are being shared around the team too, which has given his players a great deal of confidence which he hopes will be demonstrated against his French visitors this week. In the absence of Didier Drogba (suspended), Nicolas Anelka has been made favourite to score the opening goal on the night with odds of 4/1 from Paddy power but Florent Malouda should not be ignored in this market as he has been in a very rich vein of form of late and is a good price at 11/2.
In addition to Drogba, Chelsea will also be without Frank Lampard, Yossi Benayoun, Saloman Kalou and Jose Bosingwa, but such is their strength in depth that their absences should not make too much difference to the outcome of the match.

Chelsea Stats | Marseille Stats
If there is anything guaranteed in this match, it will be that Deschamps will have done his homework on the Chelsea players and that he will ‘set his stall’ out accordingly. He will also have made a comprehensive study on the tactics used by Ancelotti but whether this knowledge wins him the game or not is open to doubt. His team are not as strong as last season, particularly after losing star striker, Niang to Fenerbahce. His replacements Loic Remy and Andre-Pierre Gignac have not made the impression that was hoped for and they now must face the best team that they have been up against all season. Jordan Ayew is a good striker however and looked in good form for Marseille against Avignon a week or so ago, scoring a very handsome brace. He may well be worth backing in the anytime scorer market where he has odds of 11/2 with PaddyPower.
All in all however, we see this as a win for Chelsea and believe that they will have a two goal advantage at least by the end of the 90 minutes. A 2-0 win has odds of 11/2 while a 3-1 win can be backed at 9/1, both with paddy power.
