Blackburn host Everton at Ewood Park in the Premier League on Saturday with both sides desperate for a win. Each club had a bad start to their league campaigns and haven’t taken a point yet, with Everton marginal favourites with Unibet.
Blackburn were touted as potential relegation candidates at the start of the year and they are certainly living up to their billing. In their opening fixture they faced off against Wolves at home and started the game well after taking the lead. It all then went pear-shaped for Steve Kean’s men and Wolves left with the three points after pulling two goals back to earn the victory. Then last weekend Rovers travelled to Aston Villa where they were soundly beaten 3-1.
The Carling Cup brought some relief in midweek and Sheffield Wednesday arrived at Ewood Park. Steve Kean’s side played well, winning 3-1, but he will know his side will have to up their game on Saturday.
Everton have only played one Premier League game so far this season and it was a shock 1-0 defeat at home to QPR. The Toffees looked flat and didn’t have much of an answer after going a goal down to the newly-promoted side. Any chances they did get they were squandered and the Goodison Park faithful must be worried with what the club has to offer going forward in attack.
The Carling Cup on Wednesday night did see Everton claim a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United but not much can be taken from the easy victory over the League 1 outfit.
In the betting for Saturday’s game, the bookmakers have installed Everton as favourites at 13/10 with Unibet.com, with a Blackburn win at 2/1 and a draw priced at 9/4.
The Toffees might be the favourites here but Blackburn offer a bit of value at that price. They haven’t actually been that bad so far and should have taken something from their opening fixture with Wolves. Playing at home in front of their own fans at Ewood Park should fire them up to get the win.
It would be hard to have any confidence in backing Everton away from home this weekend. Against QPR last weekend they were very disappointing in a match they really should be taking all three points from. Upfront Everton seem to have a problem as they don’t possess a reliable striker to get them the goals. Saha and Yakubu cannot be counted on because of their fitness and Beckford is still unproven. The goals might come from midfield but they will struggle to find the back of the net in most games this season.
