Ghana v Nigeria Semi Final Betting for Africa Nations Cup

Ghana who were once the dominant Nation in the Africa Nations Cup with four wins, the last time being in 1982, are poised once again to get into a final following their 1-0 victory over host Nation, Angola in the quarter final. They will now meet Nigeria, who are themselves twice winners in what promises to be a very intriguing semi final. Bookmakers, Victor Chandler , have the Nigerians as the narrowest of favourites to win the match with odds of 6/4, while they have Ghana at 7/4 with the draw available at 2/1.

On the form shown by both teams so far in the tournament, it is easy to understand why the bookmakers can barely separate them. Both teams lost their opening Group games, before getting ‘off the floor’ and qualifying for the quarters. However, neither side have looked particularly impressive and can consider themselves fortunate that they have avoided reigning champions and favourites, Egypt in the semi finals.

We think that it will be a very cagey affair with neither side willing to expose their obvious defensive weaknesses. Nigeria were unable to break the deadlock in their quarter final match and had to be content to win the match on penalties after extra time and we think a similar outcome is likely here. We would therefore be in favour of a 1-1 draw at full time, and would back that at 5/1 also with Victor Chandler, but we do take the Nigerians to win after extra time.
