Swansea and Aston Villa meet for the first time since 1983 when they go head-to-head in the live Sunday lunchtime Premier League match. The Swans start the match at the Liberty Stadium as 5/4 favourites and that looks good value against a Villa side that have been very poor away from home, with William Hill pricing the away side 11/5 and the draw 23/10.
Villa were played off the park in their last away match and the eventual 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Monday night could have been so much worse. It could be a similar story this weekend and expect Swansea to enjoy the lion's share of possession.
The Welsh side were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to Manchester United last weekend as they suffered their first defeat at home in thirteen matches. We fancy they can get back to winning ways on Sunday and they can be backed at odds of 13/5 to win to nil against Villa. That could be a decent punt as Swansea have conceded just two goals in six games at home this season, the lowest in the league, with WilliamHill.com offering 6/4 for them to keep a clean sheet.
Their biggest problem has been putting away chances, as was shown during the recent 0-0 draw with Liverpool, and it is no surprise that under 2.5 goals is 7/10 odds on with Hills. However, Brendan Rodgers, who is without Steven Caulker and Gary Tate, will be delighted with the form of Danny Graham, who has scored four in his last six, and he can be backed at 6/1 to score first.
Villa have had a habit of striking first in games though and Darren Bent starts the match as 11/2 favourite to be first goalscorer. Bent too has four in his last six, although it is worth noting that his five league goals this term have all come at Villa Park.
The problem for Villa has been holding on to leads as they have dropped the joint most points from winning positions in the league (9). William Hill go 17/2 that Villa are leading at half time and fail to win and that could be well worth a look for this weekend's Swansea v Villa clash.
Villa may be eighth in the league but that could change quickly as they face a tough run of fixtures, with matches against Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea to come before January. Villa, who are without Nathan Delfouneso this weekend, have won just two of their last ten in the league and have drawn five of those.
The habit of drawing matches bears a remarkable similarity to manager Alex McLeish's efforts last season with Birmingham, who of course were eventually relegated. The Midlands side are yet to win away from home this term and we can see that continuing in Wales, with Swansea priced 4/1 to come from behind and win or draw.
