An all Premiership tie sees Stoke host Liverpool in the fourth round of the Carling Cup on Wednesday night. Kenny Dalglish's side start as 11/10 favourites in the betting at the Britannia Stadium, while Stoke are available at 5/2, with the draw an industry priced 23/10 with Bet 365 - who will be streaming the match live on their website.
Stoke got the better of Liverpool during their Premier League clash last month as a Jonathan Walters penalty was enough to separate the two sides at the Britannia. It was a rare goal for Stoke in their meetings with the Merseyside club as they have failed to score in six of their last nine matches against Liverpool.
Liverpool have had a problem with keeping clean sheets this season as they have kept just two in twelve but Wednesday could be the chance to put that right, with B365 going 13/8 on a Reds clean sheet.
Kenny Dalglish's team hold the edge this week as Tony Pulis's squad struggle to cope with the rigours of a Europa League campaign, with Jermaine Pennant, Ricardo Fuller and Danny Higginbotham allout injured.
Peter Crouch could be in line to start against one of his former employers though after scoring three goals in his last five starts and he is a 7/1 shot to score first.
It is Stoke's third match in six days and Liverpool look well set to take advantage of any fatigue on show. Liverpool are seven-time champions of the Carling Cup and they are bidding to reach the last eight for the first time in four years.
Kenny Dalglish is likely to give Andy Carroll a start and rest Luis Suarez as he has a fully fit squad to choose from. Carroll has scored just two goals this season and is still to justify his £35m price tag, with Bet365.com pricing him 6/1 to score first. Of more value could be Craig Bellamy at 13/2 though as the Welshman has scored two goals in his last two starts and he has looked backed to his very best of late.
Liverpool have scored first in their last five matches and are 4/6 odds on to do so again, while they have only failed to score once in their last 40 League Cup matches. Only Liverpool scoring in Wednesday's match can be backed at an industry best price of 9/4 and that looks good value when you consider that only one team has scored in seven of the last eight meetings between Stoke and Liverpool.
Despite Stoke's fine record at home this season, they are unbeaten in nine there in all competitions, we fancy Liverpool could add to their tally of four wins from six away matches this term as they bid to push for a first piece of silverware under Dalglish.
