Celtic travel to Switzerland for the second leg of their Europa League qualifier with FC Sion on Thursday night. The tie is evenly poised after a goalless first leg and FC Sion are marginal 6/4 favourites to win the second match at Stade Tourbillon according to Paddy Power, while Celtic can be backed at 7/4.
Celtic are actually 4/7 favourites to qualify and we fancy they could well pick up a score draw, available at odds of 11/5, to go through on away goals, while Sion are 5/4 to qualify.
The goalless first leg at Parkhead wasn't as bad a result as some have suggested, particularly as it meant the Swiss side didn't get a crucial away goal. Celtic themselves will be looking to nick a goal in Switzerland and Anthony Stokes will be keen to continue his decent start to the season.
Stokes has scored three goals in his last five appearances and can be backed at industry best priced odds of 6/1 to score first.
Despite losing 1-0 to St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League at the weekend, a match they dominated, they should take great confidence from the fact that they have lost just one of their last ten away matches.
Furthermore, they have won their last four matches away from home, keeping clean sheets in each of them, with PaddyPower offering 21/10 for a Celtic clean sheet on Thursday.
Manager Neil Lennon has included Kevin Wilson, Beram Kayal, Gary Hooper and Charlie Mulgrew in his squad amid rumours that he is under boardroom pressure to ensure Celtic progress in the competition.
They could well make it a low scoring affair in Switzerland and it promises to be a nervy occasion for all involved. Four of Celtic's last five matches have involved under 2.5 goals, as have Sion's last three, and under 2.5 goals look a decent punt at 4/6 this week.
Sion are third in the Swiss League and have managed to score one goal in each of their last three home games. A player to look out for is their Hungarian defender vilmos Vanczak, who has been prolific so far this season. Vanczak has scored four goals in six matches and he looks worth each-way consideration at least in the first goalscorer market from odds of 25/1 with PaddyPower.com.
Interestingly, Sion's three home goals have come after the 64th minute, with PaddyPower pricing odds of the first goal to be scored after the 26th minute on Thursday at evens.
We do fancy Celtic to emerge with a draw from their trip though and the correct score of 1-1 at 5/1 looks decent value and would mean safe progress courtesy of that all important away goal.
