Even though Stoke City face the biggest game in decades next month when they take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final, they will still have a lingering eye on the relegation zone. Currently five points above the drop zone the Potters will be hoping to allay any fears of Premier League relegation with a win against a struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves have been in a torrid run of form of late having only gained a point in their last three games and are sitting precariously in 19th place, one point from safety. However, Mick McCarthy would've been buoyed by his side's performance against Fulham on Saturday as a late Andy Johnson goal meant heartbreak for the Midlands club and ensured they stayed in the bottom three.
Paddy Power make Stoke clear 5/6 favourites to win the game with Wolves available at 10/3 with the draw being 5/2. The teams have met twice this season with Wolves beating the Potters 2-1 at home earlier in the season, but Stoke gained revenge with a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup.
Both sides will be desperate to gain some all-important points as they continue on their quest for Premier League safety and at the odds PaddyPowers 5/2 about a draw could be the safe bet.
Stoke City have been free-scoring of late, and this was shown when they trounced Bolton Wanderers 5-0 in the FA Cup semi-final. Goals in their last six games means Stoke have a far superior goal difference than the sides behind them in the table and it should mean we have an exciting attacking game, with Wolves also looking for goals.
Paddy Power's 11/2 about a 1-1 draw offers very little value, so look towards the Irish firms' 13/1 about 2-2 parity come the end of the game. Both sides don't really have a stand-out goalscorer at their disposal and Kenwyne Jones for Stoke is the leading Premier League scorer between the two teams with seven goals. Therefore, why not look for a huge price for first goalscorer. Matthew Etherington has been a revelation for Stoke this season and the speedy winger can cause any full-back problems and at 10/1 with Paddy Power looks to be excellent value. Also, with the long throw at the Potters' disposal then look towards centre half Ryan Shawcross to score first at 20/1.
The likes of Jones and Walters for Stoke and Steven Fletcher for Wolves are far too skinny to score at anytime at odds of 6/5, 9/5 and 5/2 respectively, so look further down the list for a bit of value. Jamie O'Hara has been an excellent addition from Tottenham Hotspur and the talismanic midfielder looks a juicy price at 5/1 to score anytime, as does the aforementioned Etherington who is the stand-out bet of 7/2 to score at anytime.
