Southampton Are 'Unbackable' When They Host Everton On Super Sunday

Sunday lunchtime's live Premier League offering on Sky Sports comes from the St Mary's Stadium as Southampton take on Everton and both teams are desperately scratching around for form following a disappointing start to the campaign...

  • Everton have rescued eight points from losing positions this season
  • The Toffees have won five of the past ten Southampton v Everton clashes since the Saints returned to the top-flight in 2012 - Drawn Two, Lost Three

Managers Under Pressure

Mauricio Pellegrino has endured an inauspicious first few months as Southampton manager as they have managed to score a paltry nine league goals, while successive defeats to Burnley (1-0) and Liverpool (3-0) have left them just one point above Sunday's opponents Everton.

The Toffees are in crisis mode as caretaker manager, David Unsworth, watched his men suffer a 5-1 shellacking at the hands of Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday night and he is expected to recall some of his first team players this weekend.

Everton had actually shown a bit of grit in their previous two league games though and they could be worth a look to win or draw in the 'double chance' market - 20/21 with Bet Victor.

The Merseyside club are still searching for their first away win of the season but you would expect some sort of reaction from the players after the Europa League embarrassment and Southampton are simply 'unbackable' at odds-on in the outright market.

Another Fightback?

Southampton have only won two of their league games at St Mary's this term and they have failed to score in four of their seven on home soil, so it is debatable as to whether they can take advantage of an Everton side that has gone 11 games without a clean sheet in the league.

The Toffees have conceded 24 goals this term, including two or more in each of the last four, but they have shown a bit of spirit to fight back in a couple of those games, coming from behind to win at Watford and draw with Crystal Palace in recent weeks.

In fact, Everton have rescued eight points from losing positions this season and they are 6/1 to come from behind and win or draw with William Hill.
