Arsenal are odds on to continue their resurgence in form against Fulham in the live Saturday evening Premier League match at the Emirates. The Gunners are 4/9 odds on favourites to win the latest London derby, while Fulham have struggled away from home this season and are priced 7/1, with the draw available at 16/5 with Bet 365 bookmakers.
Arsene Wenger was celebrating his side's qualification from the Champions League group stages on Wednesday night as they became the first English team into the knockout phase. It is a remarkable achievement for a team that was woefully out of form at the beginning of the season but they have turned things around impressively.
Key to their change in fortunes has undoubtedly been the form of their flying Dutchman Robin Van Persie, who continues to score for fun. The fact Van Persie has remained fit for an extended period has made a huge difference and he now has 31 goals in 29 league appearances during 2011 and seven in his last four appearances at the Emirates. Ominously for Fulham, Van Persie has scored five in his last seven against the Cottagers and he starts as the 11/4 favourite to score first on Saturday with Bet365.com.
Arsenal have scored first in half of their league games this season, while Fulham have scored first in only two, so it could be worth a look at the Arsenal double result at odds of 11/10, particularly with little value to be found with them in the match odds.
Meanwhile, Arsenal's last eight in the Premier League have involved over 2.5 goals and over 2.5 is 13/20 odds on, with B365 offering 21/20 for the 'match x goals' market of Arsenal to win with over 2.5 goals in the match.
Arsenal certainly look good value to win, even with Bacary Sagna, Jack Wilshere, Kieren Gibb and Carl Jenkinson out injured. Fulham have never won at Arsenal in 25 Arsenal v Fulham fixtures, losing 22 and drawing three.
Things look unlikely to get better for Martin Jol's men this weekend as they continue to struggle away from home. They have won just once away from Craven Cottage in the league and despite taking four points from their last two away, it is worth noting that those points came against very poor Wigan and Sunderland sides.
Meanwhile, Fulham have failed to score in four of their last six away and the Arsenal win to nil can be backed at odds of 7/5 with B365.
Jol's should welcome back Steve Sidwell, Stephen Kelly and Simon Davies this weekend as his side look to improve a run of three defeats in their last five league matches. However, their record in London derbies is woeful - they have won just three of the last 45 and none of the last 34 - and the correct score of 3-0 to Arsenal could be worth a punt at 9/1.
