Liverpool are a clean sheet away from reaching the Carling Cup final at Wembley next month as they host Manchester City in the competitions semi-final second leg on Wednesday night with a 1-0 lead from the first leg. A Steven Gerard penalty was enough to split the two sides a fortnight ago and now bookmaker Ladbrokes make Kenny Dalglish's side 2/5 favourites to qualify for the final and 8/13 to win the trophy outright.
Liverpool are unbeaten at home this season and Ladbrokes make the Reds their 8/5 favourites to win the match in ninety minutes on Wednesday night. The pair met in the league at Anfield back in November in a game which finished 1-1 and home draws have really been the big problem for Kenny Dalglish's side. Liverpool have drawn seven of their eleven games in the Premier League at home including matches they will have been heavily odds on to win like against Blackburn, Swansea, Norwich and Sunderland.
Liverpool do have a good record against the top sides however drawing with United and City at Anfield and a draw would be enough for them to progress. At odds of 9/4 for a draw on Wednesday it's worth a bet with Ladbrokes.
It's difficult to predict what kind of team Dalglish will put out and he could wield the axe on some of the players he claimed underperformed in their 3-1 defeat at Bolton on Saturday. City are likely to be without Mario Balotelli who could begin a four match suspension for his alleged stamp on Scott Parker on Sunday.
That last gasp 3-2 win over Man City on Sunday afternoon should prove to be a real shot in the arm for Roberto Mancini's side. A draw or even a defeat would have been a damaging blow to their title hopes as they continue to struggle without the suspendd Vincent Kompany and the Youre brothers who are playing in the African Cup of Nations. City are 17/10 to get the win which could see them reach the final.
Samir Nasri has been a constant fixture in the City line-up whilst Yaya Toure has been on International duty and although his performances on the whole have been poor his goal which opened the scoring on Sunday could give the player a real boost of confidence. Ladbrokes price the Frenchman up at odds of 10/1 with Ladbrokes to score first which looks attractive.
Goals could be of a premium here so another 1-1 draw like the league meeting between Liverpool v Man City makes appeal at 6/1 whilst under 2.5 goals at 4/6 looks the way to go.
