Portsmouth v Leicester Betting: Draw Looks Likely Result but King Great Bet to Score Opener

Portsmouth take on Leicester for the second time this week at Fratton Park, but this time it will be for points and not prizes with the south coast side looking for their first league win of the season. The two teams met on Tuesday in the third round of the Carling Cup, and it was Leicester who came out on top, winning by 2 goals to 1. This is probably why the Bookmakers can barely separate them in the betting with Paddy Power offering 6/4 on Leicester and 7/4 Portsmouth, they also offer 9/4 about the draw.

Both teams have been struggling in the league, with Portsmouth holding up the table, without a win and just two points gained from seven games played. The Foxes sit two places above them and have at least once league victory to their names which came against high flying Cardiff ten days ago which they won by 2-1

Latest 2010/11 Championship Betting Odds Comparison

Portsmouth have continued on their downward spiral since being relegated from the Premier League last season, they are clearly short of confidence and manager, Steve Cotterill is struggling to motivate them. His plight was made worse when he lost midfielder, Richard Hughes on Tuesday after he was red carded for foul and abusive language, for which he was given a two match suspension.

Pompey’s biggest problem however is the lack of goals, they have scored just twice in the league this season and their loyal fans at Fratton Park have only seen them score once at home so far in three games played. Summer signings, Liam Lawrence and Dave Kitson have both been on the scoresheet just once since they arrived, but they need to be consistent particularly as regular strikers,David Nugent and Kanu are struggling in front of goal. Kitson in fact has been made a 13/2 chance with Paddy Power to score the opening goal of the match, while the same Bookmaker make Lawrence a best price of 9/2 to score at anytime during the 90 minutes.

Leicester will at least be buoyed by their win on Tuesday, it certainly gives them an advantage, but manager, Paulo Sousa, will be looking to ring a few changes with Andy King restored to the midfield and looking to add to his four goals already scored this season. King looks a fantastic bet in fact, to score the opener in this match with odds of 10/1 offered by Paddy power.

Leicester are in the habit of starting games well but not always finishing them off, while Pompey let their heads drop too quickly if they go a goal behind. They always produce a fightback of some description however, particularly in front of their own fans, which will be a big advantage to them this Friday. It is a game that both teams will be all out to win, but defeat for Portsmouth, could be a ‘nail in the relegation coffin’ even at this early stage of the season.
