Arsenal v Borussia Dortmund Betting: Van Persie short odds favourite to score first

Arsenal can secure qualification from Group F of the Champions League with victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night. The Gunners start the match at the Emirates as 19/20 favourites in the betting with Ladbrokes, while the German side are an 11/4 bet, with the draw priced 5/2.

Arsene Wenger's side currently sit on top of Group F on eight points and they are four points clear of third placed Dortmund. Victory would ensure they continue their exceptional home record in Europe and secure their place in the knockout phase.

Arsenal have lost just one of their last 36 Champions League matches on home soil and are undefeated in 25 group games at home. Meanwhile, Arsenal are now unbeaten in eight matches as they continue to turn the season around and top four place in the Premier League is looking likely once again.

Robin Van Persie has undoubtedly been a key man during their fine run of form as he has now scored 31 goals during 2011. Furthermore, the Dutchman has scored thirteen of his fifteen Champions League goals on home soil and he is 7/2 favourite in the first goalscorer betting.

Van Persie was on the scoresheet at the weekend as he helped himself to a double in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Norwich. The Gunners had to come from behind to win for the third time in five matches and it could be worth a punt on Arsenal coming from behind to win or draw on Wednesday, with Ladbrokes offering a tempting 7/2.

Wenger will have to do without the services of the injured Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere, as his side bid to maintain a five match unbeaten run against German sides in Europe at home.

Dortmund arrive on the back of an excellent 1-0 win at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, a win that took them up to second in the league. Like Arsenal, they have had to overcome a woeful start to the season and they have done so in fine style, going unbeaten in their last six.

It is defensively that they have been impressive though as they have kept four clean sheets in their last six and we fancy the look of under 2.5 goals on Wednesday at evens, with three of Arsenal's four European games this season ending that way.

Despite Dortmund's resurgence in form, they have found Europe a struggle as they have failed to win their last four European away matches and have lost seven of their last ten away in the Champions League. We fancy Arsenal are good value to pick up the three points they need and the correct score of 2-0 can be backed at a tempting 8/1.
