Portsmouth v Chelsea Odds Offer Tremendous Value for Pompey Win

Having faced and lost to one previous manager last week, Chelsea must face another this week when they take on Avram Grant and his Portsmouth team at Fratton Park in what is a vital Premier League game for them.

As far as the Bookmakers are concerned it is a non-contest, with Chelsea favourites with VC Bet for instance making them 1/4 odds favourites, with Pompey looking exceptional value at 11/1 for a home win; the draw is available at 4/1.

In fact the odds for this match could be regarded as misleading, particularly for Chelsea who have lost three of their last six games and could only manage a 1-1 draw away at Blackburn last weekend. In the process they have lost the lead at the top of the Premier League to both Man Utd and Arsenal and now can be regarded as a team where confidence is not high making them extremely vulnerable. They did beat Portsmouth by 2-1 at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, but it was a hard earned victory and in many respects, Pompey were unlucky to lose.

Since then of course, Portsmouth have had points deducted from the league due to their precarious financial position, and have little hope of avoiding the drop into the Championship at the end of the season. This could mean that they will take on Chelsea free of any worry which in turn would put the pressure on Chelsea to come to the south coast knowing that they must win. On a brighter note Pompey, like Chelsea, have qualified for the FA Cup Semi Final, proving to everybody that they can still mix it with ‘big boys’.

On paper, this match should be Chelsea’s for the taking, but we are not so sure, believing that it could be set up for a historic Pompey win, we would therefore accept the 11/1 odds on that outcome and would possibly back a scoreline of 1-0 with odds of 14/1 from Victor Chandler
