Brave Bristol City To Push Manchester City In Carabao Cup semi final second leg

A late Sergio Aguero goal handed Manchester City the initiative in their Carabao Cup semi-final with Bristol City, as the Premier League leaders won the first leg 2-1, but the Robins will fancy their chances of causing an almighty shock in the second leg at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night, as they look to knock out their fifth top-flight team of this competition, and book a final spot against Arsenal or Chelsea.

  • Manchester City won first leg 2-1
  • Bristol City stopped five-game losing run with 0-0 draw with Derby on Friday
  • Bristol City have knocked Waftord, Stoke City, Crystal Palace & Manchester United out of Carabao Cup this season

How Will It Go?

A spirited effort from Lee Johnson's Robins saw them take a first-half lead at the Etihad Stadium, as Bobby Reid's penalty put the Championship side in front, but second half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Aguero saw Pep Guardiola's men grab the victory, and they have been installed as 1/4 favourites with William Hill to notch the win.

Having been put under huge pressure by the West Country outfit in the first-leg, Guardiola's side then tasted their first domestic defeat of the season to Liverpool, but they returned to winning ways at the weekend as an Aguero hat-trick saw them beat Newcastle United 3-1, and so they will be hoping to continue on a winning thread.

Guardiola is sure to ring the changes like he did in the first leg, with Aguero, David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi all likely to be not selected in the starting XI, but with the likes of De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva all set to feature then the visitors are entitled to be red-hot jollies.

But, having stopped their five-match losing run against Derby County on Friday night with a 0-0 draw, Bristol City will be hoping the vociferous crowd at BS3 can galvanise their players, and having already knocked out Manchester United at home, as well as fellow top-flight sides Watford, Stoke City and Crystal Palace then the 14/1 with Ladbrokes for a Bristol City win has a chance, while the draw is 11/2 with Betfair Sportsbook.

Manchester City are sure to have the lion's share of possession, but with the away goal the home side can take the game to their opponents again, and it should prove to be an entertaining contest, and the 1/4 about an away win is far too short, and the win market is not worth getting stuck into.

Goals Expected At Ashton Gate

When Bristol City performed their high pressing mentality it did not only cause Manchester City defenders problems, but also left gaps in behind, and so it could be an eventful evening at Ashton Gate, and so it could be a night jam-packed with goals, as both side aim to book a spot at Wembley, and the 13/10 with Ladbrokes for there to be over 3.5 goals in the match looks a great bet.

De Bruyne The Value In First Scorer Market

Kevin De Bruyne was sensational in the first leg, as not only did he grab the equaliser for Manchester City, but his class shone through on the night, as he constantly found himself with bundles of space, and the brilliant Belgian is a cracking 7/1 with Betfair Sportsbook to open the scoring, while the 9/5 with the same firm for him to score at any time is another superb bet in what should be a cracking contest.
