Man Utd v Benfica Betting: Reds odds on favourites at Old Trafford

The top two teams in Group C of the Champions League meet for a second time on Tuesday night when Manchester United welcome Benfica to Old Trafford. The first match ended in a draw and Bet 365 offer 3/1 for another stalemate this week, although United start as 1/2 favourites, with Benfica priced 6/1.

United currently top Group C on goal difference from Benfica and they will be looking to secure their place in the knockout phase with a win on matchday five. They are firm favourites for the match as they bid to secure a sixth win in a row in all competitions.

Since losing to Manchester City 6-1 at home in the Premier League, United have responded well as they have won all five matches and have kept a clean sheet in all of them. Sir Alex Ferguson's men are available at an industry best price of 6/4 to win to nil on Tuesday and that looks a very decent punt.

United have grinded out victories of late rather than blown teams away, as was shown during their 1-0 win over Swansea at the weekend, and they have won three of their last four matches by a 1-0 scoreline. The correct score of 1-0 to the Reds again can be backed at 6/1 in the betting with B365 this week.

United will have to do without the suspended Nemanja Vidic though, while Michael Owen and Tom Cleverley have been ruled out, with Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling and Rafael all doubts.

Even with those selection problems, Ferguson will be confident that his side can maintain their recent form, particularly as they have scored in each of their last 24 matches in all competitions. Wayne Rooney may have struggled for form of late but he has scored three in the Champions League so far and he starts as 15/4 favourite to strike first.

United have made a habit of scoring first in matches and they have been ahead at half time in each of their last five, with the United double result priced 6/5 by Bet365.com.

They come up against a Benfica side that are unbeaten in their last 20 matches in all competitions and who sit second to Porto on goal difference in the Portuguese league. If they are to breach United's defence, then the main goal threat is likely to come from Rodrigo Moreno Machedo.

Rodrigo has scored Benfica's last five goals and the Spanish under 21 international has scored nine goals in his last eight appearances for club and country. Bet 365 offer a tempting 11/1 for Rodrigo to score first and 10/3 for him to score anytime.

They arrive with selection problems of their own though as Javier Saviola and Nemanja Matic are doubts, while Enzo Perez is out. Despite their fine unbeaten run, they have drawn five of nine away from home and it is tough to see them causing an upset.

Four of the Portuguese side's last five matches have involved under 2.5 goals, as have United's last four, with under 2.5 available at evens, and we fancy United to just edge a tight contest.
