Juventus Clipped For Champions League Glory After Real Draw Atletico
Friday's draw for the Champions League semi-finals had a big effect on the betting market for the tournament as Real Madrid were drawn to face their cross-city rivals Atletico, while in-form Juventus come up against Monaco...
- Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid
- Monaco v Juventus
Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid
Real Madrid's odds of winning the tournament drifted slightly following the draw as they are now a best price 15/8 (Bet Victor) to become the first team to successfully retain their title in the Champions League era.
Zinedine Zidane's men are coming up against Atletico in Europe's premier competition for a third time in four years, as Real beat them after extra-time in the 2014 final and on penalties in the 2016 final.
However, Real's record against their rivals isn't great as they have beaten Diego Simeone's side just twice in normal time since the 2014 final, drawing six and losing five.
Simeone will be quietly confident of causing an upset as Atletico have only lost one of their past six visits to The Bernabeu (won three, drawn two) and they are 4/1 to win the Champions League at this stage (Paddy Power).
Monaco v Juventus
The other semi-final is a fascinating contrast in styles as a superb Juventus defence that has conceded just two goals in the Champions League this season takes on a Monaco attack that has banged in 21 goals in the competition.
Monaco have been the surprise package this season, knocking out Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stages, but they remain underdogs for the title at 15/2.
The Ligue 1 side will know Juventus well as they met in the quarter-finals of the 2014/15 competition, with Juventus winning 1-0 at home before producing a patented defensive master class to progress with a 0-0 draw at the Stade Louis II.
The Old Lady of Turin went on to finish runners up to Barcelona in 2015 but they are 13/8 (Bet 365) to go one better and lift the trophy in 2017.
