Crystal Palace v Huddersfield Odds: Back Glenn Murray to continue fine form
High-flying Crystal Palace welcome 17th-placed Huddersfield to Selhurst Park in Saturday evening's televised Championship clash. Palace will be hopeful of taking all three points as they bid to keep pace with league leaders Cardiff, who take on promotion rivals Leicester earlier in the day. In fact, if Palace do manage to win, and Cardiff lose, then they will leapfrog the Welsh outfit and be top of the tree at Christmas.
Palace, who are the odds-on 8/11 favourites with Betfred, have been on a stunning run since the dawn of September, losing just one of their 19 matches. However, they have been tested in the last few weeks, collecting only the one win from five. Manager Ian Holloway will now be looking for his troops to bounce back from consecutive 2-2 draws and claim a valuable win on home soil.
Struggling Huddersfield have failed to win any of their last six games, suffering four defeats in the process. Their defence has been particularly fragile having leaked 11 in four. On the face of it 17th may appear to be a poor position but Town are actually nearer the play-off spots than the relegation zone. However, they will need to pick up points over the festive period in order to avoid becoming embroiled in a relegation scrap.
Palace?s home form has been very strong this season, with the London club unbeaten at Selhurst Park since their opening day last-gasp defeat to Watford. Since then they have won seven and drawn three on their own patch. Their fans will expect another win on Saturday evening, with a 2-0 victory available at 13/2. But, with Palace conceding four goals in their last two games, Huddersfield could potentially sneak a goal, making a 2-1 home win perhaps a more likely outcome at 7/1, with a 3-1 victory priced at 12/1.
An away win would really boost the Terriers' confidence while, depending on other results, propel them up the league. Considering they have won four times on the road this season it is not completely out the question either.
Two of those victories have been 1-0 wins, and the Yorkshire club can be backed at 10/1 to repeat the scoreline on Saturday. Meanwhile taking into account that the last five meetings between the sides at Selhurst Park have ended all square, a draw could be the way to go at 5/2. More specifically a 2-2 draw may prove fruitful at 14/1.
Palace have scored in all but one of their 24 league and cup matches this season. On top of that they are the Championship's top scorers at home with 29 goals. This makes them a tempting bet at 2/1 with Betfred Bookmakers to score three or more, while they are priced at 4/6 to net at least twice.
Palace striker Glenn Murray has been in simply stunning form this season, having accumulated 20 Championship goals already this season. His sensational form has continued into December, with the 29-year-old netting five times in just three games. This unsurprisingly makes him the short-priced 3/1 favourite in the first goalscorer market, while he is odds-on at 8/11 to score anytime and 7/2 to net two or more goals.
Huddersfield have failed to score in their last two away games meaning manager Simon Grayson will be looking for the Jermaine Beckford, Simon Church and James Vaughan to get back among the goals, with Beckford priced at 15/8 to get his name on the scoresheet, while Church and Vaughan both priced at 9/4.
