Tottenham v Aston Villa Odds: Spurs a good bet to continue rich vein of form

The Monday night live match in the Premier League is Tottenham v Aston Villa, where the home side have been installed as odds on favourites to win the match. Spurs hope to have manager Harry Redknapp back on the sidelines following his heart operation, whilst Villa are looking for their first away win of the season. Aston Villa sit in eighth place in the division before Mondy night's game and Manchester City are the only club to have beat them away from Villa Park this season in five matches. Good draws at the likes of Sunderland, Everton and Fulham will give Alex McLeish confidence that his side can set up and avoid defeat at White Hart Lane.

The aforementioned Rafael Van der Vaart picked up a hamstring injury on International duty for Holland and is rated at a 75% chance of playing here. After a fast start for his loan club Spurs, the Togan striker has now failed to hit the net in his last six Premier League starts, so he looks a little skinny here at the prices. Van der Vaart has scored six goals in the league during this period and is really thriving off playing a more central role for the team this season. At 21/20 the Dutchman could be worth a squeak to score anytime, whilst Jermain Defoe who has looked sharp when coming on could be a bet at the same price.

Spurs have won seven of their last eight matches, with just the solitary draw away at Newcastle the only blip during this time. With the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon on the flanks and Scott Parker thriving in midfield alongside Luka Modric it's a really well balanced midfield who could cause Villa all sorts of problems.

Spurs have scored in the first half of matches on seven of the eight matches they have won and should Harry Redknapp's side get off to a fast start here the 2/1 about the first half having the most goals could well be a good bet with Bet 365.

For all Spurs' dominance since the end of August, they've not kept a clean sheet since their 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool on the 18th September, so both teams to score at 4/6 and over 2.5 goals at 3/5 are both predictably short priced.

A home win will keep some daylight between them and Arsenal and Liverpool in the race for fourth place with a game in hand, so despite what could be a stubborn Villa defence, Harry Redknapp's side have the extra quality to take all three points here. Spurs have won three of their seven games in the league this season by a 2-1 scoreline, so backing this eventuality on Monday at odds of 15/2 should provide some interest.
