Aston Villa v Arsenal Betting: Wenger's men odds on to win at Villa Park

Aston Villa's poor run of form and slide down the Premier League table looks set to continue when they welcome Arsenal to Villa Park on Wednesday night. The bookmakers have Arsenal as firm favourites for the match, with Bet 365 pricing them 8/11 on to take three points, while Villa are a 4/1 punt as the pressure increases on Alex McLeish.

Villa's 2-0 surrender to Liverpool on Sunday could have been much worse in what was an abject display and they have now won just two of their last nine matches. That run of form looks unlikely to improve before the New Year as trips to Stoke and Chelsea follow the visit of Arsenal, and they are now just six points above the relegation zone.

McLeish's team have now won one of their last four at Villa Park and the fans' impatience with McLeish is increasing. The manner in which they folded meekly to another of the top sides on Sunday, as they have done in defeats to Manchester United and Tottenham, suggests they will struggle to take any points off Arsenal this week.

Villa have scored just two goals in their last five matches, with both of those coming against relegation threatened Bolton, who have the worst defensive record in the division. Bet365.com offer 13/8 for Arsenal to keep a clean sheet and 2/1 for them to win to nil on Wednesday and those markets could be worth a look.

Gabby Agbonlahor returns from suspension for Villa, while Darren Bent should be fit, despite going shopping during Villa's loss to Liverpool! Bent has scored four in his last four appearances against Arsenal and is 13/2 to be first goalscorer.

However, Villa have been woeful defensively of late and have conceded more goals from corners than any other team, with B365 going 4/1 for the method of Wednesday's first goal to be a header. Arsenal are more renowned for their slick passing football though and Robin Van Persie will be looking to give the struggling Richard Dune and James Collins a tough time. Van Persie has 15 goals in the league this term and he is available at 7/2 in the betting to score two or more goals against Villa.

The Gunners are unbeaten in twelve matches at Villa Park and they look well set to extend that run. There have been five goals after the 89th minute in the last seven meetings between the two sides, with B365 going 5/6 for a goal to be scored after 74minutes, 59 seconds this week.

Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday left the Gunners 11 points behind the league leaders and Arsene Wenger has conceded that his side can no longer win the title, although a top four place looks a genuine target.

They have lost just one of their last nine in the league, conceding just one goal in their last three. They were hugely impressive in defeat at City and they can be backed at 15/8 to beat Villa with a handicap of -1 goal with Bet 365. Meanwhile, the Arsenal double result can be backed at 7/4.
