Despite their internal difficulties, Roberto Mancini’s high flying Manchester City side should have enough about them to defeat an inconsistent Everton team at Eastlands this coming Monday night. Paddy Power Bookmakers in fact make City the 3/4 odds on favourites to win the match, with Everton as big as 9/2 and the draw a 5/2 option.

City of course must decide whether or not they will include top scorer, Carlos Tevez, in the team, after ‘the want a way’ striker, returned to Manchester for training after a short break in Spain. Tevez has scored ten times in the Premier League this season, with the nearest player to him, Yaya Toure netting just three, a statistic which clearly demonstrates the importance to the team of the Argentine striker. Should he not play then Mancini is likely to recall Emmanuel Adebayor to play alongside Mario Balotelli, who have scored only four times between them in the Premier League this season.

It is interesting to note that City have failed to score in any of their last three home games against Everton and have not beaten them on home soil since 2007. Whilst that might represent a negative aspect it should also be noted that City has not lost in their last seven Premier League games, their best unbeaten sequence for 12 months and have charged up the table to third place. They are level on 32 points with Arsenal and know that a win in this match of course will see them go to the top of the Premier League table, a point above their greatest rivals, Manchester United. Whether or not they can stay there is a debateable point, but with such a strong squad City has, all of a sudden, become a great value bet for to win the Premier League with odds of 13/2 available from Paddy power.

Whilst City have gone seven games without a defeat, the reverse is the case with Everton, whose last Premier League win came against Stoke City on October 30th. Since then they have drawn five times and lost twice, a sequence of results that has kept them just two points clear of the relegation zone. Defeat in this match therefore will mean troubled times for manager, David Moyes and his team; indeed it could be a sticky time ahead for the ‘Toffees’!

Despite their predicament, Everton fans should remember that they achieved the ‘double’ over City last season, winning both games 2-0 and overall they have won five of last six meetings between the two sides. Punters should note a repeat 2-0 Everton win in this match carries outstanding value odds of 25/1 with PaddyPower. Everton will however be without the influential Mikael Arteta, who is suspended, but they will have Tim Cahill available, who is a good looking bet at 8/1 with to score the first goal in this match, something he achieved in this fixture last season.

On current form it is difficult to make a case for Everton to win this match, however, City have found them difficult opponents in recent seasons which suggests that there may be a bit of a stalemate. A low score draw therefore looks a reasonable prediction, particularly as both teams have been accused of being draw specialists at various times this season.
