Benfica v Celtic Odds: Portuguese side tipped for the win in Lisbon
Celtic will look to continue their fine European form on Tuesday night when they travel to Lisbon to take on Benfica. The Scottish side have produced a couple of heroic performances in their last two Champions League outings as they narrowly lost to Barca at the Nou Camp before beating the same opponents 2-1 in one of the famous nights at Parkhead a couple of weeks ago.
The win over Barca has put Celtic in a strong position in Group G as they currently sit second on seven points and a win on Tuesday would take them into the last-sixteen. A score draw could also be enough if Spartak Moscow fail to beat Barcelona in the group's other match, although Benfica, who currently have four points, start favourites for this fixture at 1/2 odds on with Ladbrokes.
Celtic go into the game as a 5/1 chance, while the draw is a 10/3 punt, and the SPL leaders will need to produce another huge effort if they are to get a result at Estadio da Luz. Benfica are no pushovers and they head into this game full of confidence after winning six of their last seven in all competitions.
The Portuguese outfit have won five of those seven to nil, including the last four in a row, and they are a best price 13/8 to win to nil in this Benfica v Celtic clash on Tuesday. That looks a decent punt as Benfica have won all four of their meetings with Scottish opposition on home soil without conceding a goal and they boast the firepower to cause Celtic problems.
Oscar Cardozo is 7/2 favourite to score first after notching four in his last three to take his tally to eight for the season, while Rodrigo Lima is a touch further back at 9/2 after scoring seven this term, including four in his last five. The form of those two has ensured that Benfica remain unbeaten in the Portuguese League, where they currently sit in second place, and they have only lost two in the Champions League so far - to Spartak Moscow away and at home to Barcelona.
It is Celtic's win over Barcelona that has thrown Group G wide open and there is no doubt that they have raised their game for the Champions League as they have lost just one of eight in the competition. The absence of Rangers in the SPL has meant their domestic outings have lost some of their lustre but European football is undoubtedly the pinnacle for Neil Lennon and his men.
Lennon appears to have found a gem of a striker in Tony Watt and the young Scot scored what turned out to be the winner against Barcelona. Watt has now scored six goals this season, including three in his last four, and he is 9/1 to score first and 3/1 to score anytime. They could be worth a look for those wishing to hedge their bets with the 'Benfica win to nil' in mind.
Benfica could prove to have too much for Celtic in the end though and the Portuguese side can ensure that qualification for the knockout stages goes right down to the final game. Ladbrokes bookmakers offer a 'correct score coupled' market and the 11/4 on offer for a Benfica 2-0 or 2-1 win looks decent value at 11/4.
