Tottenham start favourites when they take on Rubin Kazan at White Hart Lane on Thursday night. The two sides are level on four points at the top of Group A in the Europa League but Spurs are 4/6 odds on to take the three points, with Rubin priced 41, although the draw could be the way to go at odds of 5/2 with Boylesports.
Spurs have been in fine form of late as they have picked up 13 points in their last five matches which has propelled them up the Premier League table. However, Harry Redknapp has opted to rest players for European games so far and that could give Rubin a sniff of a result this week.
Ledley King, Michael Dawson, Niko Kranjkar and William Gallas are all out injured, while playmaker Rafael Van Der Vaart is ineligible. Furthermore, Emmanuel Adebayor was doubtful for the league match against Newcastle at the weekend and is likely to be rested.
With so many key players absent, it gives fringe players a chance to shine and Roman Pavlyuchenko could start against the Russian side. Pavlyuchenko used to ply his trade in the Russian league and he is 9/2 to be first scorer. However, a better punt could be 4/1 shot Jermain Defoe, who came off the bench to score in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle at the weekend and took his tally to five goals in nine games for the season.
Spurs have started matches relatively quickly of late as they have been ahead at half time in three of their last four fixtures and a double result of a half time Spurs win and full time draw could be worth a look at odds of 14/1 with Boyles.
Spurs will be aware of the fact that they have a Premier League match against Blackburn on Sunday, while they have only scored three goals in their last four European matches at home - Boyles go 6/1 that Rubin win with a clean sheet and 10/1 that there is no goalscorer in the match.
Rubin are not to be underestimated as they won the Russian League in 2008 and 2009 and finished third last season. That took them into the Champions League qualifying stages, where they were unfortunate to lose out to a strong Lyon outfit.
They are struggling in sixth place in the league this season though and will be looking to European football for some cheer. Interestingly, Obafemi Martins could lead the attack and the former Newcastle striker has a fine record against Spurs, scoring four goals in six appearances against them, with Boylesports.com offering 8/1 that he scores first.
Martins is a doubt for the match though, while Vlademir Dyadyun is likely to be out and Roman Eremenko is ineligible.
Rubin are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions and we fancy they are good value to come away with a result this weekend. The correct score of 1-1 can be backed at 13/2, while the double chance of a Rubin Kazan win or a draw is available at 11/10.
