Bookmaker Victor Chandler was one of the first to put up a market on which club Wayne Rooney will play for next after news coming out of Old Trafford on Tuesday that the England Stiker wanted to leave Manchester United. Manchester City are the early favourites at 9/4 with Chandlers although there's sure to be plenty of speculation over the coming days and weeks.

Sir Alex Ferguson announced this news in Tuesday's Champions League press conference, just a couple of days after the Sunday newspapers broke the story that Wayne Rooney wanted to leave Manchester United. A somewhat resigned Ferguson explained that Rooney had been offered a new contract but the player and agent both confirmed that he wanted to leave.
This is the first sensational story to come out of this season, as despite Rooney's poor run of form, he's still considered one of the best players in the world and Manchester United will now be wanting to get a good deal on any sale. Manchester City are the bookmakers favourites understandably due to the kind of cash they can throw at United to secure the signings, but this would be a huge blow to the Manchester United supporters were Rooney to move across to the blue half of the city.
Next best in the betting is Real Madrid at 9/5 with VCbet. Jose Mourinho has never hidden his admiration for Rooney and a signing would reunite the England striker with Cristiano Ronaldo who moved to the Bernabeu from Old Trafford two years ago. Barcelona have also been given a quote at odds of 5/2 whilst Chelsea are also near the head of the betting at 9/1. The bookmakers seem to think these four clubs hold the key, with Bayern Munich 12/1 and AC and Inter Milan next best at 20/1.
It's still not out of the question that Rooney may stay on at Manchester United, as Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the offer was on the table and they would like him to stay. The story is sure to overshadow United's game against Bursaspor in the Champions League on Wednesday night, a match which Rooney will miss due to an iankle injury picked up in training. It'll be interesting to hear the response of the fans as Rooney could become the latest in a long list of big name players to leave United. Ronaldo, David Beckham, Paul Ince and Jaap Staam have all left Old Trafford when seemingly at the height of their game and Ferguson and supporters alike will be confident they can carry on without Wayne Rooney.
9/4 Man City
9/5 Real Madrid
5/2 Barcelona
9/1 Chelsea
12/1 Bayern Munich
20/1 AC Milan
20/1 Inter Milan
40/1 Arsenal
100/1 Everton
