Leeds will look to cause another upset against Manchester United when they meet in Tuesday's live Carling Cup match at Elland Road. They are long odds to repeat their FA Cup upset of last year as Ladbrokes make them 5/1 outsiders for the match, while Man United are 2/5 on and the draw is priced 16/5.
Leeds famously beat United in an FA Cup match in January 2010 thanks to a Jermaine Beckford goal and they will be looking for a repeat of that famous result. However, they come up against a rampant United side, although it could well be a second string side for Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson is likely to rest several of his first team players as they look to continue their domination of the Premier League, so it could mean Darron Gibson, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov are given a rare outing. Berbatov is a 9/2 punt to be first scorer this week but Owen could be the value pick at 9/2 as he scored four goals in four Carling Cup starts for United last season.
Goals certainly look to be in store at Elland Road as six of United's opening seven matches of the season have witnessed over 2.5 goals. Leeds too have been free-scoring as eight of their nine matches have been over 2.5 and they have failed to keep a clean sheet all season in the Championship - over 2.5 on Tuesday is 1/2 on.
We fancy both teams to score looks a good shout and that is 4/7 on with Ladbrokes.com, who also offer odds of 7/4 for both teams to score and Man Utd to win the match.
Paul Grayson's men had a shaky start to the season but appear to have righted themselves as they recovered from consecutive defeats in the opening games. They have still lost three of their first seven league fixtures but have a decent record at home - winning five of the last six at Elland Road.
They will have to do without Patrick Kisnorbo this week as he is suspended after his sending off in the 2-1 win over Bristol City in the Championship at the weekend. Ramon Nunez is set to start though and he could be worth looking out for as he has scored four goals in the Carling Cup already this term, with Ladbrokes offering 10/1 that he scores first.
However, for Leeds to repeat their famous upset against United they will have to reverse recent trends. They have lost all four League Cup meetings with United and have only beaten the Reds twice in their last fifteen meetings at Elland Road. We fancy even a second string United's quality could tell this week and the correct score of 2-1 to Sir Alex Ferguson's men can be backed at 8/1.
