Chelsea v West Brom Odds: Back Torres in the betting to be first scorer

Chelsea are odds on to hand Andre Villas-Boas his first three Premier League points when they take on West Brom in Saturday's live late kick-off. Ladbrokes make the Blues 1/4 on to pick up a first win of the season at Stamford Bridge, while West Brom have an awful record at the Bridge and are a huge 11/1, with the draw priced 9/2.

Villas-Boas started life as Chelsea manager with a 0-0 draw against Stoke last weekend and the most significant bonus he could take from that match was the apparent return to form of Fernando Torres. The Spanish striker was voted man-of-the-match and appeared to be somewhere back to his best in terms of movement. He is 3/1 joint-favourite to score first this weekend and improve on his woeful tally of one goal in 19 appearances for the Blues.

Torres could be the way to go this weekend as Villas-Boas opted for the Spaniard rather than Didier Drogba up front. If Drogba does play then that could spell trouble for West Brom as he has scored eight goals in seven Chelsea v West Brom matches, and he shares favouritism to score first at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.

There is a concern for Villas-Boas though as Petr Cech is out through injury, so either Hilario or Ross Turnbull will deputise. It is questionable whether the stand-in keeper will have much to do as West Brom have failed to score on their last six visits to Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea clean sheet is 10/11 on this weekend and for a bit more value it could be worth a look at the Chelsea win to nil at 11/10 with Ladbrokes.com.

Chelsea won this fixture 6-0 last season to extend their record to ten wins from ten against West Brom in the Premier League. During that time they have conceded just three goals, although they will have to do without the injured Michael Essien and David Luiz, as well as the suspended Daniel Sturridge.

West Brom are much-improved under the management of Roy Hodgson and the former Liverpool manager will know all about the threat posed by Fernando Torres. His side produced a gutsy performance in losing only 2-1 to Manchester United in their Premier League opener last weekend and Shane Long looked particularly sharp.

Long made a goalscoring debut following his move from Reading and he is available at tempting odds of 11/1 to score first this weekend. Fellow striker Peter Odemwingie is a doubt for this weekend, while Jerome Thomas is definitely out.

It is at the other end that West Brom have had their problems though as they kept just two clean sheets in the league last term. It is difficult to see them picking up a clean sheet here, even against a Chelsea team that have failed to win in their last four league matches, and the correct score of 2-0 to Chelsea looks a decent punt at 5/1.
