Inter Milan v Barcelona Odds: Messi Can Star in 1st Leg, Champions League Semi Final

For the third time in this year’s Champion League, these two ‘giants’ of European football go head to head, but this time in the first leg of the semi final. Both sides got to this stage looking like the best two teams left in the tournament and now they are set to play in what many felt should have been a fitting final. The Bookmakers make Barcelona favourites to win this first leg with VC Bet quoting them at 13/10, with Inter available at 9/4 and the draw at 11/5.

The odds have been drawn up based on the fact that Barcelona drew 0-0 in Milan in the Group phase, but won their home leg by 2-0 looking very much the better team at that time. However, Inter boss, Jose Mourinho, believes his side are a completely different proposition now and that they have the right mentality to take on the Spanish champions and win.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, without doubt proved why most plaudits believe him to be the best player in the world currently after scoring four times against Arsenal in the last round, which is why he has been made favourite in the Goalscoring markets for this match. Messi has been made 16/5 favourite to score the first goal and has also been made 10/3 favourite to score two goals or more in this match with odds available from Victor Chandler. It is interesting to note that Inter striker Samuel Etoo, formerly of Barcelona is only a 6/1 chance to score the first goal, with his Inter strike partner, Diego Milito an 11/2 chance.

We think a classic tie is highly likely but believe that Inter will have enough tactical ability to at least get themselves a draw in this first leg and would back them to do so with odds of 11/2 for a 1-1 scoreline. We also think that Barcelona will ultimately prevail over the two legs however but the 4/11 odds on them doing so do not appeal, we would therefore prefer to wait and take a fresh look at the tie for the second leg.
