Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge for the live Sunday afternoon kick-off and there is plenty at stake this weekend. Chelsea start as 4/5 odds on favourites despite struggling for form of late, while Liverpool have been impressive away from home and can be backed at 16/5 in the betting with William Hill, with the draw priced 11/4.
Fourth-placed Chelsea are three points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table, despite failing to convince in recent matches. Defeats to Arsenal and Blackburn have been compounded by a draw with Genk and unconvincing wins over QPR and Everton, with a result this weekend much needed.
Sunday's match will no doubt focus on Fernando Torres playing against his old side, although he too has struggled for form. The Spaniard has scored just three goals in 22 league appearances for the Blues and he is a best priced 11/2 to score first.
A better punt could be Frank Lampard to score as he has three in his last four for club and country and has three in his last five against Liverpool, with Hills offering 13/2 for him to score first or 15/8 for him to score anytime.
However, Liverpool have scored first in 72% of their matches and we fancy the look of the Reds to score first at 8/5. Luis Suarez has been a more than adequate replacement for Torres for Kenny Dalglish's side. Suarez scored all four goals in Uruguay's 4-0 win over Chile last week and he is a hugely tempting 7/1 in the betting to score first with WilliamHill.com.
The only concern for Liverpool is whether Suarez will be fit, while Steven Gerrard is definitely out.
It is defensively that Liverpool have been most impressive this season as they have conceded just ten goals in eleven league matches. It is a statistic that bodes well for Stamford Bridge and they are 10/3 to keep a clean and 6/1 to win to nil. That looks even better when you consider that Chelsea have failed to score in five of their past seven matches against Liverpool and three of the last four at Stamford Bridge.
Furthermore, there have only been nine goals in the last eight Chelsea v Liverpool fixtures, and under 2.5 goals can be backed at 10/11 on Sunday.
The Reds are now unbeaten in eight away matches and we fancy they look good value to come away with a result this weekend. They have been hugely impressive away from home this season as they have won their last four fixtures away from Anfield and three of their five in the league.
William Hill offer 10/11 for the double chance market of a Liverpool win or draw and that could be worth a look. Meanwhile, Hills have enhanced the price of a 2-0 correct score to either side from 11/2 to 7/1.
