Lyon To Pile The Pressure On Ronald Koeman At Goodison Park

Everton's manager Ronald Koeman is under immense pressure ahead of his side's Europa League clash with Lyon on Thursday night and it is difficult to see the Toffees getting the win required to help lift some of the gloom surrounding Goodison Park at the moment...

  • Both teams scored in 14 of Lyon's past 15 Europa League outings, including in the last 10 in a row
  • Lyon have lost one of eleven outings in all competitions - Won Four, Drawn Six

Struggles

Koeman is favourite to be the next manager to leave his post in the Premier League after watching his team win just two of their past eleven games in all competitions, with those sole victories coming against Championship strugglers Sunderland in the League Cup and against out-of-form Bournemouth.

It is therefore a surprise that Everton are 13/8 favourites for victory (Betway) on Thursday, particularly as they have opened the Europa League group stages with a 3-0 defeat at Atalanta and a 2-2 draw against Apollon.

In contrast, Lyon have only lost one of their eleven games in all competitions this season and the Ligue 1 side have drawn both of their Europa League matches 1-1, away at Apollon and at home to Atalanta.

Bruno Genesio's side have only lost to Paris Saint-Germain so far this season and it is fair to say that a pedestrian Everton team are no PSG!
Match Odds:

Lyon Are The Value

Lyon are 9/5 for the win on Thursday and we would have backed them outright but they are struggling with a mounting injury list that includes summer signing Mariano Diaz, who has scored seven goals in nine outings in Ligue 1 this season.

Lyon do still have attacking quality in their team with Bertrand Traore and Memphis Depay impressing for a side that has scored in nine of their eleven outings this term, although they are suspect defensively, with both teams scoring in eight of their matches.

Both teams to score is 6/10 on (Coral) this week but it is the Lyon win with draw no bet that makes most appeal at even-money with Paddy Power, with the 'draw no bet' offering a bit of insurance in case Lyon do struggle without Diaz.
