Trends Suggest Tempers Could Flare When Watford Take On West Ham

David Moyes gets his reign as West Ham United manager underway on Sunday afternoon as the Hammers travel to Vicarage Road for their televised Premier League clash with out-of-form Watford...

  • West Ham have won only one of their past thirteen away league games - Drawn Six, Lost Six

How They Are Shaping Up

Moyes, who was relegated with Sunderland last term, takes over a West Ham side that is sitting in the relegation zone following a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool that cost Slaven Bilic his job before the international break.

The Hammers have the worst defensive record in the top-flight, conceding 23 goals, and it is difficult to make a case for them as they have won just one of their past thirteen away league matches, including none of their six on the road this season.

West Ham are 11/4 to win but that makes little appeal on the basis of their away record, although Watford are hardly pulling up any trees as they have lost three league matches on the bounce and they are very short at 11/10 (Bet 365).

The Hornets have only won one of their five outings at Vicarage Road so it is perhaps the draw which is most appealing at 5/2.

Sending Off

It remains to be seen how Watford react to the recent media reports linking their manager Marco Silva with a move to Everton but there is no doubt that West Ham's players will be out to impress their new manager.

The visitors' enthusiasm could spill over though as they have the worst disciplinary record in the Premier League (25 yellow cards and two reds) and there has been a sending off in three of the last four Watford v West Ham meetings. Unibet go 41/10 about a red card in Sunday's match.

It is a fixture that could be entertaining as both sides are struggling defensively, with Watford going seven without a clean sheet, and over 2.5 goals could be the bet for odds-on backers (16/17 with Unibet.co.uk).
