Karanka Gone

Karanka departed The Riverside for good on Thursday after overseeing a dreadful sequence of ten games without success in the league, a run that saw them drop to nineteenth place in the league table.

Scoring goals had been the big issue under the ultra-cautious Karanka, who saw his team fail to score in 48% of their matches and manage a league-low 19 goals this season.

Will Boro break off the shackles now that their manager has departed?

A run of 433 minutes without a league goal hardly bodes well and it is no surprise to see that they are 6/1 underdogs for Sunday (Bet Victor) having failed to beat any top-half team this season (drawn six, lost six).
Match Odds:

Lack Of Goals

This could be a good time for Boro to play Manchester United though as this will be the Red Devils' fifth game in fifteen days and the midday kick-off comes quickly off the back of their Europa League clash with FC Rostov on Thursday night.

Jose Mourinho also must do without the suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic for this Middlesbrough v Man Utd clash and the absence of their top goalscorer will be a real concern as their hopes of a top-four finish have receded despite going unbeaten in seventeen league outings.

Six of United's past seven matches have produced two goals or less and the trend could continue, with Bet Victor going 4/6 about under 2.5 goals on Sunday.

Furthermore, the United win combined with under 2.5 goals can be backed at 19/10 (Coral) and Mourinho's men have impressed on the road this season, collecting 24 points from twelve games and winning all five of their trips to teams that start this weekend in the bottom-seven of the table.

Half-Time Draw

United may have to be patient though as they will no doubt be tired and Middlesbrough will be buoyed by the departure of Karanka. The half-time draw stands out at 23/20 (Betfred) for Sunday and it is a bet that has paid out in seven of Boro's last ten league fixtures, with six of those goalless at the half-time interval.
