Real Madrid v Barcelona Betting: Tempting odds for Karim Benzema to score first

The latest instalment of 'El Clasico' takes place on Wednesday evening as Real Madrid take on Barcelona in the first leg of their Copa Del Rey quarter-final. Barcelona have enjoyed the better of recent meetings and start as marginal 6/4 favourites at the Bernabeu, while Real could be worth a look at 7/4 in the betting with William Hill.

The draw is priced 23/10 and neither side will be willing to give an inch with the second leg at the Nou Camp still to come. Real will no doubt look to learn lessons from last season's two legged Champions League defeat to the same opponents where the tie was effectively over by the second leg.

Furthermore, Real will be looking for swift revenge after losing 3-1 to Barca in La Liga last month, although Jose Mourinho's men remain top of the Spanish table, five points clear of their bitter rivals. They have won 22 of their last 23 matches and they will have few better chances to secure a first win in normal time in twelve matches with Barcelona.

Their only win in that twelve came in the Copa Del Rey final last year and this week's match promises to be another entertaining affair. All of Real's league home matches have involved over 2.5 goals this term and over 2.5 is 8/11 on in the betting, while there have been at least four goals in the three 'El Clasico' meetings this season, with over 3.5 goals available at 2/1.

For a touch more value it could be worth a look at Real to win along with over 2.5 goals at 14/5 with WilliamHill.com. Meanwhile, neither side has excelled defensively of late as Real haven't kept a clean sheet at the Bernabeu in seven, while Barca have failed to keep a clean sheet away in five, with Real to win along with both teams to score available at a tempting 4/1.

There is so much attacking talent on display from both sides and the first goalscorer betting should provide plenty of interest. Cristiano Ronaldo (7/2 to score first) has been criticised in the past for  failing to produce the goods in 'El Clasico' and has plenty to prove, although Karim Benzema looks a decent punt at 9/2 with Hills after scoring four in his last four.

For Barca, Lionel Messi is 7/2 after scoring 33 goals this season, although again for a bit more value Alexis Sanchez can be backed at 9/2 after scoring six in six. Barca are unbeaten in all three Real Madrid v Barcelona meetings this season but their form lately will be a concern to Pep Guardiola, particularly as they have drawn four and lost one of their eight away matches in the league.

We fancy Real Madrid to take a slender lead to the Nou Camp, with the correct score of 2-1 available at 9/1, although expect plenty of controversy as there have been five red cards in the last eight meetings between the two and a sending off can be backed at 6/4.
