Liverpool will look to continue their push for a top four place in the Premier League on Sunday when they visit Aston Villa. The Reds have a fine record at Villa Park and start the live lunchtime match as 10/11 favourites in the betting, while Villa are priced 16/5 and the draw 12/5 with Bet 365.
The Reds have lost only once in their last thirteen visits to Villa Park and arrive in the Midlands on the back of some fine away form this season. They have won four away matches this term and look well set to extend that run to five against a Villa team that face a tricky run of fixtures.
Villa come up against Arsenal at home next week before travelling to Stoke and Chelsea, and while they are mid-table at the moment they could easily slip down the table. They have won just one of their last four matches in the league, against a very poor Bolton, and the lack of fight shown in defeats to Tottenham and Manchester United will be a huge concern.
Goalscoring has been the biggest issue as they have failed to score in three of their last four and their cause isn't helped by the suspension of Gabby Agbonlahor this weekend. Bet 365 offer 5/4 for Liverpool to keep a clean sheet and a tempting 15/8 for Liverpool to win to nil.
Those look very good bets when you consider that Villa have scored only four goals in the last twelve Aston Villa v Liverpool matches at Villa Park and the fact that only one team has scored in six of Liverpool's last seven away games. In fact, Liverpool's recent matches have been low scoring encounters, with eight of the last nine going under 2.5 goals and under 2.5 is unsurprisingly 7/10 on with B365.
There have only been five goals in the last five matches between Villa and Liverpool at Villa Park, although Darren Bent will hope to continue his fine record against the Reds. The England striker has scored three in his last four against Liverpool and he is 13/2 in the first scorer betting with Bet365.com. However, he has scored only five in the league this term, all at Villa Park, and has failed to score in his last six.
Villa boss Alex McLeish has been criticised for failing to provide Bent with any service and his mood is unlikely to have been helped by the loss of Shay Given and Jermaine Jenas to injury.
Liverpool too have injury problems as Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva are out, although they look to have enough quality to overcome this Villa outfit. Luis Suarez was electric against QPR in the 1-0 win last time and he is 9/2 in the first scorer betting, while Bet 365 offer 5/1 for Suarez to score first and Liverpool to win the match.
