Following Tuesday's play-off matches, the sixteen teams who will compete at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine next summer have been confirmed. Republic of Ireland, Portugal, Croatia and Czech Republic all booked their places in the Finals Draw on 2nd December, although it is defending champions Spain who remain at the head of the betting at 5/2 with Ladbrokes.
Republic of Ireland booked their place at the finals of a major tournament for the first time since 2002 by recording an ultimately comfortable win over Estonia in their play-off match. They won through 5-1 on aggregate and their defensive steel should stand them in great stead next summer as they have kept nine clean sheets in their last eleven matches, with Giovanni Trapattoni's men a 50/1 punt to go all the way and win the tournament.
Portugal, who have reached at least the quarter-finals at the last four European Championships, also comfortably secured their place with a 6-2 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina. Cristiano Ronaldo and co were clipped into 16/1 in the betting to win the tournament.
The other two teams to secure their places in the finals were Czech Republic, who are available at 50/1 for next summer, and Croatia, who are priced 33/1, after they overcame Montenegro and Turkey respectively.
At the head of the betting to win the tournament outright are World and European champions Spain. Their passing style of football is matched by few teams in the world, although recent friendly results will give their rivals hope as England managed to beat them 1-0 on Saturday and Costa Rica held them to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday.
England are currently available at industry best priced odds of 12/1 with Ladbrokes.com as they finally look to win a major tournament for the first time since the 1966 World Cup. Fabio Capello's men have gone unbeaten through 2011 to raise hopes of success, although they will have to do without Wayne Rooney for the first three matches of Euro 2012 as they bid to go past the quarter-finals of a major tournament for only the fourth time since 1966.
It was Germany who of course knocked England out of the World Cup in devastating style in 2010 and they are currently second favourites at industry best priced odds of 7/2. Their fast flowing style was hugely impressive in South Africa and they dominated their group in qualifying for Euro 2012, winning ten from ten.
Elsewhere, Holland are available at 6/1 after losing only one match during qualifying, with Italy, at 10/1, and France, at 12/1, the best of the rest in the betting ahead of the finals draw on Friday 2nd December.
