Northern Ireland will be forced to field an experimental side for the visit of Morocco to Windsor Park on Wednesday night after injuries robbed them of 12 players. But Nigel Worthington's men are still favourites to beat Morocco in this friendly match and are currently a drifting 7/5 with Boylesports bookmakers in the betting, with Morocco a 9/5 bet, and the draw is at 11/5.
Worthington will hand debuts to Preston midfielder Adam Barton and Watford defender Lee Hodson as they attempt to cope with the absence of Steven Davis, Kyle Lafferty, George McCartney and Maik Taylor amongst others. With such injury problems it perhaps comes as a surprise that Northern Ireland haven't called up their international record goalscorer David Healy. Healy recently joined Doncaster on loan from Sunderland and has scored 2 goals in 3 matches, and he boasts a record at international level of 35 goals in 84 appearances. Worthington has defended his decision to omit Healy and has instead called up League One side Bournemouth's in-form striker Josh McQuoid.
The 20-year-old has hit two hat tricks in two games for the Cherries, and he was excellent in their 3-0 win against Walsall at the weekend. He will start on the bench in anticipation of his first international appearance and he is a 5/2 bet with Boylesports.com to score at anytime during the match to mark his debut.
Northern Ireland are currently fourth in their Group C for Euro 2012 qualifying and it could have been so much better. They held Italy to a hugely creditable 0-0 draw, only to then draw 1-1 against the footballing minnows the Faroe Islands to undo their good work in their battle for qualification. The game against Morocco should provide a chance to try a few new players and gain some experience at international level for several, and Rory Patterson will be given a chance up front and is a 15/2 bet with Boylesports to score first on Wednesday night.
Morocco meanwhile selected a squad of 33 for the match against Northern Ireland but have since trimmed that down, and they will be desperate to impress new manager Eric Gerets. Their side include a couple of impressive players plying their trade on English shores in Adel Taarabt and Marouane Chamakh. Taarabt has been inspirational for QPR in the Championship this season although he recently threatened to quit international football, but he will be a threat to the Northern Ireland back line. While Chamakh has adapted well to life in the English Premiership with Arsenal, scoring 5 in 13 games for the Gunners, and he looks a great bet to score first on Wednesday night at odds of 11/2 with Boylesports.
Morocco will more than likely use the game with Northern Ireland for experimental purposes as well, and they should be keen to impress their new manager. They are unbeaten in 5 matches, although that run of results includes a narrow 1-0 win over Tanzania and a 0-0 draw with Central African Republic that leaves them in second place in their qualifying group for the 2010 African Nations Cup.
The correct scoreline of 1-1 looks a very good bet at 5/1 with Boylesports on Wednesday night as both sides have difficulty hitting the back of the net with any sort of regularity. With that in mind it is worth looking at there being under 2.5 goals in the match, and that is currently 4/7 with Boylesports.com.
