The pressures of football management aren't exclusive to the Premier League as Victor Chandler's latest betting on who will be the next npower Championship manager to leave his post proves. According to the odds, a third of the division's 24 managers should be fearing for their job security and the fact that three managers have already left positions at Championship clubs just six games in to the season illustrates how unforgiving this league can be, although one of those departures was Nigel Adkins who left Scunthorpe to join Southampton. The other two casualties were Steve Coppell who resigned from Bristol City after just one game in to the season and Kevin Blackwell was sacked by Sheffield United after two matches.
If this rate continues another Championship managerial change shouldn't be too far away and Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is the favourite according to Victor Chandler. Just two wins from their opening six matches sees pre-season promotion favourites Boro at the wrong end of the table and things could be looking a lot worse was it not for a 94th minute winner against Burnley on Tuesday night. Strachan is 7/2 to be the next manager to leave his post in the Championship and unless they find a run of form soon, Boro Chairman, Steve Gibson could find his patience being tested.
Keith Millen has only been in charge of Bristol City for five games but with just one win to show, he finds himself as the 4/1 second favourite behind Strachan. However, it's difficult to see the City board hastily acting to replace Millen so soon in to a three year contract and other managers look more vulnerable.
Preston manager Darren Ferguson is one such name who may not be sleeping too easily at night following five defeats from his side's opening six matches. Having only taken over the reigns at Deepdale in January, results have gone from bad to worse for PNE under Fergie jnr and with a new owner and Chairman now in place from those that appointed him, 5/1 chance Ferguson could be one of the likelier dismissals if results don't improve soon.
Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies is also a 5/1 chance to be the next to face the chop but despite continued public fall outs with the Forest board it's difficult to see either parting company with the side seemingly heading in the direction up the championship table.
Derby County is another team that has had a poor start to the season and with just four points to show from a possible 18, manager Nigel Clough is coming under increasing pressure after what was deemed a poor season last year. Clough is one of the Championship's long serving gaffers but could be good value at 8/1 to be looking for a new club in the near future.
Other candidates in the Championship Sack include Leicester City's Paulo Sousa (7/1) and Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill (9/1), both of whom are already under pressure after slow starts. However, both of these managers only took charge of their teams during the summer and much in the same way as Millen at Bristol City, they are likely to be given more time to try and turn things around.
