Brighton face a tricky trip to Wales on Tuesday night as they take on Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground in their FA Cup third round replay. Brighton start the match as 6/4 favourites, although non-league Wrexham could be worth backing to cause an upset at odds of 9/5, while the draw is priced 23/10 by William Hill.
Wrexham are the only non-league side remaining in the competition and the golden carrot of a home match against Premier League outfit Newcastle awaits the winner of this tie. Brighton are 4/6 on to qualify for the fourth round, while Wrexham are available at industry best priced odds of 11/10 with Hills.
The Welsh side currently sit on top of the Blue Square Premiership and the value of a cup run for such a team cannot be underestimated. Jake Speight has been a key man for them after scoring five in his last eight and he is 7/1 to score first, although he is doubtful for the match with injury. If he doesn't make it, Adrian Ceislewicz will look to get on the scoresheet as he did in the 1-1 draw in the first match with Brighton, with WilliamHill.com going 10/1 that he is first scorer after notching two in his last three appearances.
Wrexham will be desperate for Speight to be fit as they look to extend their record of having won three of their last four FA Cup matches at home and a formidable run of form that has seen them lose only one of their last 21 matches. That form has seen them edge ahead of Fleetwood in the race to finish top of the Blue Square Prem and they will be full of confidence against poor travellers Brighton.
Gus Poyet's Brighton side have lost their last three away matches and haven't won an away fixture since November. Furthermore, they have won just one of their last ten away from home and they look ripe for a potential upset this week.
They are ravaged with injuries and suspensions as top scorer and 11/2 favourite to score first Craig Mackail-Smith and Will Hopkins are injury doubts, while captain Gordon Greer remains suspended. Discipline has been a big problem for the South Coast side as there have been four red cards in their last six games and ill discipline could prove costly on Tuesday.
Worryingly for Poyet, his Championship team have failed to score in six of their last seven away and Wrexham to win to nil can be backed at 7/2, while the Wrexham clean sheet is available at 2/1. Meanwhile, seven of Brighton's last nine have involved under 2.5 and under 2.5 is 4/6 on with Hills at the Racecourse.
It is a tough match to call in 90 minutes but Brighton's injury problems make the Wrexham win by one goal look decent value at 10/3, while Wrexham to qualify for the fourth round is a tempting punt and would be a quite historic result for the Welsh side.
