Chelsea head to Wigan in Saturday's late Premier League kick-off as they look to maintain their renewed title challenge. The Blues' recent form has seen them close the gap at the top and they start as 4/11 favourites in the match betting with William Hill, while Wigan are fighting for survival once again and can be backed at 15/2 at the DW Stadium.
Andre Villas-Boas has claimed that his side are back in the title hunt after their 2-1 win over Manchester City lifted them to third in the league on Monday night. It was a hard earned success and Chelsea cannot afford to drop any points against Wigan this weekend.
Wigan come into the match after a fine 2-1 win over West Brom last weekend, their second away win in a row. However, their home form has left plenty to be desired as they have taken just one point from the last fifteen available at the DW and it is tough to see them adding to that tally.
Roberto Martinez's men have won just one of their last twelve league matches against Chelsea and have been on the receiving end of 8-0 and 6-0 drubbings in the past two seasons. Over 2.5 goals is unsurprisingly 8/13 on with Hills and that is the way four of the last five Wigan v Chelsea meetings have gone.
Jordi Gomez has been instrumental for Wigan of late, scoring three goals in his last four outings, and he could be worth a punt in the anytime scorer betting, with Hills pricing him 11/2. However, Wigan have conceded the first goal in their last ten matches and it could prove wise to look at a Chelsea player for a first goalscorer.
Didier Drogba has shown glimpses of his old self by scoring four goals in his last five matches and he will be looking forward to taking on a poor Wigan defence that has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last twelve matches. Drogba has scored five in his last ten against Wigan and can be backed at 7/2 in the first goalscorer betting with WilliamHill.com.
Chelsea have scored fifteen goals in their last three against Wigan and it is interesting to note that in the last five meetings between the two sides there have been five goals scored in the 90th minute or later. Hills offer 2/1 for a goal to be scored between the 86th minute and full time on Saturday and that could be worth a look.
The London club have won five of six league matches at the DW Stadium and they look well set to add another victory to that tally. Despite struggling defensively this term, they have kept two clean sheets in their last two away matches and a clean sheet is priced 3/4, although the Chelsea win to nil looks to offer better value at 6/5.
