Aston Villa v Chelsea Odds: Back Drogba to Destroy Villa with Two Goals or More

Aston Villa, under new boss, Gerard Houllier take on Premier League champions, Chelsea at Villa Park this Saturday looking to at least repeat their 2-1 success from this fixture last season. The Bookmakers however do not rate their chances too highly with most of them, including Paddy Power offering 4/1 about their chances of winning and 11/4 about them earning a draw. Chelsea meanwhile have been made the 7/10 odds on favourites to claim all three points.

As good as Villa’s victory was last year, they will still be having nightmares about their 1-7 league defeat at Stamford Bridge in March and their 0-3 loss at Wembley in April in the FA Cup semi final. These results did much to cloud what had otherwise been a season full of potential for Villa, and which helped the ‘Blues’ enormously to win the double. As bad as those two results were, Villa fans will be pleased to know that their team has only lost once to Chelsea at home in their last 11 Premier League games

Villa in fact are unbeaten in the league at home this season, with two wins and a draw from the three matches played which has helped to position them in eighth place in the table. They did however lose their last match against Spurs and will know that it is never easy to bounce back against sides like Chelsea. Houllier has yet to name his squad, but he has insisted that he has dispensed with his predecessors selection policy and will ‘ring the changes’ to keep the team as fresh as possible. Marc Albrighton is certain to play as is top scorer, Stewart Downing, who was called up by England for their Euro 2012 match in midweek. Apart from the loss at Manchester City a fortnight ago, Chelsea will be extremely confident of success in this match. They bounced back from that defeat with a dominant 2-0 win over Arsenal a week later and they will buoyed by the return to the squad of Joe Bosingwa and more importantly, Frank Lampard after injury, both players in fact could feature at some point during the game. That said, manager, Carlo Ancelotti, will not want to change things too much, particularly with his strike force of Drogba, Malouda, Kalou and Anelka who have scored 18 goals between them already this season. Little wonder therefore that these four are at the top of the First goalscorer market with Drogba looking a good value bet to at 7/2 from Paddy Power to score two or more goals in the match.
