Arsenal take on Swansea in one of two live FA Cup third round replays on Wednesday night and all the pressure is on the Gunners. Arsene Wenger's side could do with a positive result this week as they bid to end a three-match winless run and maintain their hopes of avoiding another trophy-less season, with the bookies making them long odds on favourites for this one.
The Gunners are 8/15 odds on to win in 90 minutes, while Swansea can be backed at 11/2 after they earned a replay with a 2-2 draw in the first match between the sides. The game to end as a draw at full-time can be backed at 14/5 with William Hill and that could be worth a look as the Swans look to maintain their fine recent form.
There is no doubt that the pressure is all on Arsenal as the home side and their recent form continues to cause consternation. Since they beat Newcastle 7-3, they have drawn with Southampton and of course Swansea, while they were woeful in a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Sunday.
Laurent Koscielny was sent off against City and will be suspended this week, while the fact that Arsenal played the best part of 80 minutes with 10 men might mean that fatigue comes into play on Wednesday night. They must do without the injured Mikel Arteta as well and they will be hoping Theo Walcott, who is 3/1 to score first with Hills, can maintain the form that has seen him score 14 goals this season.
It is defensively that Arsenal have struggled though as they have kept just one clean sheet in seven and they come up against a Swansea side who are full of confidence. Michael Laudrup's team are unbeaten in seven matches, including their stunning 2-0 win at Chelsea in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final, as well as a hugely creditable 0-0 draw at Everton on Saturday.
The draw at Everton ensures they have now lost only one of their last nine away matches in all competitions - a run which includes a 2-0 win at Arsenal in the Premier League earlier this season. Michu was on target twice that day and he has now scored three in his last two against the Gunners, with Hills going 7/1 he scores first and 8/1 he scores in a Swansea win this week.
Michu was on target in the original FA Cup match between these two teams before Arsenal edged into a 2-1 lead with a couple of late goals. Danny Graham earned a replay with a late equaliser and this Arsenal v Swansea clash has tended to specialise in late goals, with five of the last six scored in this fixture coming in the final 10 minutes of games.
A goal to be scored between the 81st minute and full-time on Wednesday can be backed at 23/20 and there could be some more late drama to match the first meeting. The draw looks a decent punt at this stage which would of course bring extra-time and possibly penalties in to play, with Arsenal currently 1/5 on and Swansea 10/3 to qualify for the fourth round, where Brighton lie in wait.
