Altrincham clash with Burton Albion once again on Thursday night in an FA Cup first round replay at Moss Lane. The sides played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the start of November and there is every possibility of another pulsating encounter this time around in-front of the ESPN cameras.
A last-gasp Calvin Zola equaliser for Burton Albion forced the replay and saved the League Two side’s blushes, after a late own-goal by Damien McCrory had appeared to give the visitors a shock 3-2 win. Altrincham had earlier squandered a two goal lead, with Burton's Zander Diamond and Jacques Maghoma getting the hosts back into it.
Burton go into Thursday night’s match as the evens favourites with Betfred to win in 90 minutes, while Blue Square Bet North side Altrincham have been handed odds of 13/5 to record a surprise win and book their place in the second round of football’s most prestigious cup competition. Meanwhile a draw can be found at 5/2.
Burton have enjoyed had a decent start to season and currently sit in the play-offs after 17 games. They have lost just three of their last 17 matches in all competitions but go into the replay on the back of a 1-0 league defeat to Cheltenham. However, even though they failed to beat lower league side Altrincham on home soil they should be too strong in the replay, with Gary Rowett’s men available at 7/1 to record a 2-1 win in 90 minutes, while a 3-2 victory is priced at 25/1.
Altrincham recorded a convincing 3-0 victory away to Worcester in the FA Cup Trophy on Saturday but head into the match without a home win since September. However, this is partly due to the fixture list which has seen them play just two of their last 10 games at Moss Lane.
In the previous encounter the Robins deserve credit for scoring not one but three goals away to a side pushing for promotion from League Two. Two of those may have been own-goals but they still forged numerous chances and came within a whisker of claiming a famous win. Betfred Bookmakers have handed them odds of 12/1 to win 2-1 in normal time, while a 2-2 draw at 14/1 could be a tempting bet in 90 minutes.
Carl Rodgers scored the opener for Altrincham on that day and the midfielder can be backed at 16/1 to do the same again on Thursday. Meanwhile the in-form Damien Reeves, who has 15 goals to his name this season, is priced at 6/1 to score first and 13/8 to get his name on the scoresheet at any point in the match.
Burton’s Calvin Zola came to Burton’s rescue last time and can be found with odds of 11/8 to score anytime this time around and 5/1 to grab the final goal of the match. Elsewhere Billy Kee is available at 9/2 in the first goalscorer market.
