Croatia look to have all but secured a place at Euro 2012 after their stunning 3-0 win over Turkey in their play-off match on Friday. Tuesday's second leg at the Stadion Maksimirin in Zagreb looks little more than a formality with Croatia 4/6 odds on favourites with Ladbrokes, while Turkey are 4/1 to salvage some pride with a win.
Turkey were truly abject in defeat in the first leg as they succumbed to a humiliating loss. It leaves Guus Hiddink's side with little option but to attack and at least try to appease their fans with victory in Zagreb this week.
Croatia could well look to hit Turkey on the counter attack which could make for an entertaining and open affair, with over 2.5 goals looking a decent punt, a bet that Ladbrokes price evens.
The victory on Friday was a sweet moment for Croatia as they gained revenge for their heart-breaking quarter-final defeat to the same opponents at Euro 2008. Mario Mandzukic was instrumental in the victory as he scored his sixth goal in as many games for club and country and the Wolfsburg striker is available at industry best priced odds of 8/1 to score first this week with Ladbrokes.com.
Croatia must do without the suspended Vedran Corluka and Tomislav Dujmovic for the second match but they look to have plenty in the bank to make it two wins from two, particularly with their fine home record. They have won their last four competitive matches at home and look well set to make it five.
Furthermore, they are unbeaten in thirteen at home, winning eleven of them, and they have scored at least two goals in each of their last five in Zagreb. Ladbrokes offer 5/4 for Croatia to score 2-3 goals in the match and that could be worth taking advantage of against this demoralised Turkey side.
Turkey failed to get a single shot on target on Friday but they have little option but to attack this week and we fancy the look of both teams to score at 10/11 on as Croatia have kept just two clean sheets in their last six at home.
However, Turkey have won just one of their last seven away matches, losing four, and have lost to the likes of Azerbaijan and USA during that time. Turning around a 3-0 deficit looks a big ask and the pressure is undoubtedly going to increase on Guus Hiddink. Fans were calling on the former Chelsea boss to resign after Friday's match and those calls are likely to grow louder, with the Croatia win by a margin of two goals available at odds of 4/1.
